  just an awful staying

  I wasn't happy with the room 3. It was an extension of the breakfast room on the ground floor. The glass window was separating the room from the breakfast room. Other guests could literally look into the room if they were tall enough. A part from the noise early in the morning, I just felt unsafe. It's a very unusual setting. I immediately told the staff I wasn't happy and there was an other room available but they didn't make any effort to show that room and give me the chance to swap.

  Great!

  Great stay at the Holgate Bridge! :) Comfy rooms, great breakfast, and friendly, helpful staff. They do have a problem with the heating it seems, but this was dealt with very well and we were not cold.

  If we verGreat location

  We stayed in the guest house part of the hotel. The location is great as it is near both the city and the railway museum. They have a large car park to the rear of the property where we found plenty of places to park our car. While were were located on the top floor at the front of the building overlooking the main road this was no problem to getting a good nights sleep. The room was spacious and always clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and all the staff we met were very friendly. If we ever visit York again this would be our first choice for a place to stay.

  Nice Accommodation

  We have just stayed the weekend and cannot fault the accommodation. We stayed in a family room, which was spotless, roomy, warm and comfortable, Breakfast was included and cooked breakfast was available plus cereal, fruit, toast and beverages. The staff were all very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only minus was the hike into the centre of the city, which wasnt nice in the pool weather. We would have no hesitation about staying again.

  Absolutely awful management

  I have travelled to many different countries and stayed in many different hotels. I can confirm I have not stayed in one that is anywhere near as bad as this one. Rooms are old, cold and badly furbished. Electricity cut out the entire night, had to lie in the bed eyes wide open not being able to do anything. Breakfast was when this establishment really showed how poor the customer service was and how abusive the breakfast staff were. Upon asking for an extra egg because staff were not able to provide a sausage due to lack of stock, the member of staff confirmed whether we really wanted him to turn the kitchen back on, stormed into the kitchen started swearing and threw the cutlery and pans across the kitchen. This was absolutely appalling behaviour from the kitchen staff that no one that is paying for a service has to go through. When this was raised to the manager after staff lying he was in holiday but was in fact in one of the other hotels down the road, the manager was completely defensive of how great the hotel was and was not willing to accept any wrongdoing by his staff and that he had instead done us a favour by paying the staff extra wages to stay behind for allowing us late check in. Management is hopeless, after explaining why I would pay to stay in a hotel like this if I was happier at home for free he asked us what we wanted and was disgusted at the fact we were asking for some money back to compensate for the horrendous stay and behaviour of staff we had to put up with all morning and a manager who is deaf to feedback to improve his business. Really wouldn't recommend this to anyone not even if it was free.
