    "Antique" not Antique

So many bad things about this place. 1. Bathroom falling apart - tiles loose 2. floor boards comming up and come missing in room with nails exposed. 3. Our room faced the courtyard which was very loud and echoed when anyone was in there. 4. Reception would book taxis, tell us they would call us when it arrived, did not, and the taxis would leave. This happened 2 times. 5. We found a dead bird at our door step which I had to argue with them to clean up 6. room not cleaned until last day when I forced them to clean it 7. They refused to give me clean towels telling me I had to wait until 2pm for the cleaner to come. 8. Mosquitoes in the room bit us both up. Pros: Good location on the water. Just dont do it. Choose another place.

Good location, cheap but with surprises

We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights in December. We booked a junior suite for us three. the room was really really big, it had a dining room with a fridge, a living room with a couch, a desk, and a small tv, and the bedroom with two large beds, heaters in all three rooms that worked incredibly well. there was a bathroom in all three rooms, however two of them were locked up (no clue why) and only the one in the bedroom was open. it smelled really bad and was not very clean, the soap ran out and due to language barrier, we couldn't get more soap and had to buy our own. on the third night the bathroom roof started leaking and smelling really bad, they were very quick and polite to respond and changed us to a new room. this new room was very clean but substantially smaller with only one room. given the language barrier we decided to stay, but the heater in the room didn't work and it got very cold in the room as the temperature in the atrium was -9C, they gave us one of the portable heaters that were used out in the courtyard, which did the job but made our nights very uncomfortable. we got told that such room was in fact a Jr Suite so we didn't fight it. apart from that big inconvenience, the hotel is very well located, right by the river, within walking distance from Hermitage and St Isaac's, very convenient. The staff was very very polite, however spoke very little english. Breakfast was alright, nothing fancy, but not bad. the room was not easy to find however, it's at the very top floor. nightly rates were also very cheap which is why we went with that option. the overall experience was alright, however, we were glad our stay was over

    Forget this hotel

Bottom line: book something else. I could have written a long story about our stay here, but this would be very rude. We came with a group of people for a wedding. My son had booked the wedding suite and checked in. After midnight after the wedding we came back from the party and someone else had occupied the wedding suite. His stuf had been transferred to another room. Would we book at this hotel again, definately not.

    Huuuuge rooms

This hotel could be really great with better management - its located in the beautiful place, walking distance from the main square, but the quality of "the inside" is terrible and needs renovation - stained furniture and missing pieces of parquetry...Rooms are really big and could be furnished for a family suits but instead it has some weird pieces of furniture and is just a waste of space. Breakfast is good though if you get up early - once smth is finished there is no more of that. Wi-Fi and mobile phone connection only work by the window.

    historic building close to alll

history hotel was just that an historic building used as a hotel and business . I felt like a was royalty staying at this hotel . you could feel the grandeur. under the years of neglect and miss management . the rooms where very large with and sparsely furnished with furnishings that some would say out dated. but I say charming and old school .the photo in the add is of the court yard and is was grand . I wish they would improve the front entrance it also could be grand. the hotel is right on a main canal it really makes you feel like your in a mission impassible movie of an eastern block country. the hotel is only a few blocks away from the main attractions great for walking to them . I would have given this hotel a 5 if it wasn't was had no hot water for the first two days .then they let us use a diffract room to take showers . and that was the only time while in Russia there was any deficiency's in accommodations . Russia and the history hotel are modern in every way . there is nothing to fear about traveling to Russia it has great wi fi and internet , a mass transit system that will take you any where in the city's most people working in the tourist industry speak English . there is no KGB looking over your shoulder .and the people are some what somber in there outward expression but when you get to know them they are very friendly . even strangers are helpful if you should get lost just ask and they will help you . so have no fear and pack your bags and plain the trip of a life time and book your Russia odyssey.
