A must Go hotel in Japan!

The best atmosphere, nice and helpful owner and nice hotel! Extremely suitable for the young couples! After a few days of Tokyo, we have been to this shima onsen. We dont have any expectation before, and hinatami kan gave us lots of surprise! People The people are really nice and helpful, especially the owner! He is a super nice and young man! He knows the basic English which is far enough for foreigners who dont know Japanese. He (Nori san) is really helpful, he tried his best to fulfill our desire, thank you so much again.=] And other people are really polite, which you cannot experience in other cities! Accommodation I like the simple Japan style so much, thats why I choose this hotel. It is just revamped and thats why the smell of woods is so strong. I love the simple (Less is more) concept. The sleeping quality is the best after onsen. The pillow there is so comfortable too! If you dont choose the room with onsen, there are 3 private onsen for you as well, which is really nice for those you dont want to try onsen in public!=] Besides,I love the flexibility of the hotel, some of the hotels under a company has their own rules and cannot change based on your needs. Thats why we always choose some small hotel. Sightseeing There is not much information from the web, but dont worry. Get the information in the JR station nearby or from the owner. He will have some suggestions to you! Try to spend some hours for sightseeing (better with a car), you will find the air is sweet and the world is so much beautiful. Access Just less than 2 hours JR and 40 minutes bus from Tokyo, which is a best place for relax and away from the city, so that you can experience the crowd of Tokyo and the comfort of nature!

    Quaint boutique ryokan

I was looking for a quiet ryokan to rejuvenate and I chanced upon this place. I was here for 3 nights in early June. This is located in the Shima onsen area and renting car to look for this place is highly recommended as it is a mountainous area. As I drove from narita airport, it took me about 4 hours or so with rest stops in between. Hinatamikan is a very quaint, minimalist boutique ryokan in a corner of hinatami area. I loved the clean, minimalist Japanese design of this ryokan. They have 3 private onsens. Of which one of it is an amazing outdoor onsen. All 3 onsens are generously equipped with toiletries and even bathing soaps from a local Japanese brand, Marks and Web. As there are only 10 rooms in this ryokan, I had absolutely no problems using the onsen at any time of the day. I was served breakfast and dinner daily in my room which was very pleasant. The spread is very generous and freshly made from their local produce. I looked forward to all my meals daily. Perhaps they could look into reducing the portions for ladies like me! This ryokan is family owned. The owner Mr. Noriaki was very helpful in answering all queries before and after booking a stay at his ryokan. As they all speak basic English, I was assigned a pleasant taiwanese lady, Miss Zhen, to assist me during my stay. She is very welcoming and helpful, always seen with a smile. The rest of the staff are equally pleasant and helpful without being too intrusive. There are a few waterfalls around the area and I would recommend that you have a proper attire and foot wear as one of it is about 3km into the forest. The area itself is a quiet little town filled with onsens and beautiful scenery. Definitely a place to go to if you just want to relax. I throughly enjoyed my quiet stay in his beautiful ryokan and I look forward to coming back again in autumn or winter.

    Tranquility Defined

This small and intimate ryokan is a bit off the beaten path but worth the detour. I don't normally sleep well in ryokans but this time round, I had an amazingly sound sleep, helped no doubt by the soothing burble of the stream just beside the ryokan. The food was delicious and plentiful, with breakfast in particular being a stand out. Everything was spotlessly clean, the staff were discrete but attentive, the onsens (in particular the outdoor rotenburo) perfect. The only very slight negative is that the choice of sake available on premise is very limited, but they are happy for you to bring your own drinks at no additional charge.
