Kunming-Shangrila explorationBest hotel during my tour, with regrets that I only enjoyed a night stay here. Good location, one turn to many eateries, Supermarket and Shangrila local market. Modern and well furnished room with free coffee & tea. Breakfast served with great varieties. Highly recommended if you visit Shangrila.

CLEAN, FRIENDLY, NOT NORMAL FIVE STAR STANDARDThe rooms were clean and perfect temperature for sleeping. The showers had plenty of hot water. Definitely no complaints with the room. The breakfast left a bit to be desired. Granted there was a wedding to be held later in the day of our stay, however it was still a little shocking to come to breakfast and not be able to find a small table to sit at. The tables were set up Chinese style with about 10-12 seats per table. Random people were seated at the tables. There were placemats only at the tables. No silverware or chopsticks or napkins were set. I had to find a waitress (twice) to get something to eat with. The food was mostly Chinese breakfast items. There was an egg station, but when I asked for scrambled eggs, was told "We don't cook those. We only cook fried eggs." For a hotel with the Hilton name on it, this was surprising. The coffee maker was in Chinese only which thankfully I can read. However, whether I pushed the button for coffee or cappuccino, the same half cup of black coffee came out. The staff was friendly at the check in desk, so overall it was a fine stay. Keep your expectations aligned, however, if you are thinking a Hilton standard in Beijing, for example.

Great for smokers and those on a dietWe have lived in China for 7 years. When we travel domestically, we try to stay at international hotel chains for two reasons: 1) they have non smoking rooms and 2) they have western breakfasts. Here both failed miserably. The hotel advertises non smoking floors, but only in name. We called reception about the neighboring room smoking and being up late and loud but reception said it will be ok when they go to sleep soon. Ha! Pathetic.... Also, the pillows and bedsheets smell like smoke in the non smoking rooms. At breakfast, expect 2-3 large your groups between 7:30-9am every morning. While this makes sense given that you are in a city reliant on tourism, there are not anywhere near enough tables to fit everyone. This means you have to continuously orbit around the restaurant looking for someone to leave, end up grouping 4 people around a table for two or make it to breakfast by 7am. And then theres the food... as far as non-congee items, they have pre-cooked fried eggs, a noodle station and some fruit. The biggest joke of the morning was that getting a cup of coffee entailed waiting for 15 minutes. No exaggeration. This was partly due to the tour group crowd, but there was only one member of staff working one coffee machine who took 1-2 minutes per cup of coffee. And, naturally, there were no clean cups, so we had to wait while the staff members yelled at each other across the restaurant and kept clearing their throats and spitting into the waste baskets. The only reason I am giving this place a second star is because the location is about halfway between the old town to the south and the Ganden Sumtsenling Monastery to the north (both less than 20rmb by didi), and is only 15 minutes to the airport. From what we have heard from friends, the Shangri-la hotel in Shangri-la is much better managed. This hotel is not, by any means up to an international brand.

Great ambience and locationStayed a night here while visiting this region. Decors and room amenities are good. Bed a little soft but ok for a night. Breakfast are mostly Chinese styled but there are toast and egg station provided too. Check in staff are friendly, free on site parking and near to super markets. Will come back again

Very comfortable, not no barThe rooms were absolutely lovely, very well heated with comfortable beds. We slept very well! The staff were friendly and there were washing machines and tumble dryers that you could use for a small fee. Nice selection of Chinese food at breakfast. We were disappointed that there was no bar or lounge area to sit down in the evening. Location is OK, but would be better to stay somewhere nearer the Dukezong ancient town. Name in Chinese:
