    Ruidoso!

Gran vista. Buena atención

Médiocre hotel, poor service, cheaper and better alternatives

My wife and I did a staycation for two nights (Sat and Sun) for Valentines. Monday morning we had freakish icy weather with advisory warnings to avoid driving. Our car was totally iced over. I asked the hotel staff what we would need to do to stay another night, but because I booked through Expedia, the hotel staff said they were unable to do anything and new guests had already reserved our rooms: so out in the cold for us. We went across the street to Hotel Indigo. We are paid a lesser rate for the same kind of room there, and the Hotel Indigo room has more amenities (such as a microwave). The Hilton had no hot water and the restaurant in the hotel was closed the entire time we were there. Overall it was a mediocre experience with poor customer service while there was a cheaper, better alternative across the street. My recommendation is to go to Hotel Indigo instead if youre considering this hotel.

    Not a great stay

I wanted to stay downtown for the Louisiana Marathon. Pros: It was convenient for the run. Cons: The hotel was not great and there was no place to eat! Paper thin walls ( we heard our neighbor's 4am alarm go off) and felt like we were part of the conversation for anyone in the hallway or in neighboring rooms. The room was supposed to be clean but seriously - had some spots on the bathroom vanity and dresser drawer that could have been wiped off easily along with some spots on the back of the bathroom door. Speaking of which - the furnishings - ok I don't need ultra modern but the chair in our room was stained and ripped, and the bathroom door had 1 gold handle and one silver. The windows were so dirty we could barely see out. Oh - and the ice bucket still had water in it. No, just because the remote had a plastic sleeve on it, and the room had a "sanitized" tag on it, I did not feel like my room was truly deep cleaned between guests. The hotel restaurant was never open and downtown Baton Rouge apparently is "more business district" so there are very few restaurants to walk to. Very inconvenient since the hotel is valet only and the car is inconveniently inaccessible. Do you have to valet oh no, said the valet with a straight face - feel free to park in a public lot or try to find street parking. So helpful. Almost as easy as trying to find an open restaurant in walking distance on a Sunday evening. Tried to get clean towels after the marathon - called the front desk at 7 am but no one responded. Asked the housekeeper in the hallway, she said "the machine is broken" and gave me 1 towel. Finally got an extra washcloth. With so many other hotels to choose from, there's got to be a better choice! Baton Rouge is just not a very friendly welcoming city. I felt like I almost starved to death, and the hotel just didn't live up to my expectations. Interactions with staff - on Friday we made the unfortunate decision to stay over Sunday. We booked another night, but it was made into a separate reservation. We spoke to a gentleman at the front desk who booked us into the same room and said we were all set. Sunday afternoon I was resting after running the half marathon and I got a phone call from the front desk asking me "are you going to leave?" I explained no, I had a reservation so we had to go down to the desk, check out and check back in.

Shockingly unpleasant - especially for a Hilton

We went for the Louisiana Marathon and wanted to stay within walking distance to the start. We stayed 3 nights and had an accessible room. We travel with our adult son, who is in a wheelchair, and was rolling in the 5K & half marathon. The good is that the location is convenient for the marathon start. The negatives are numerous. The biggest is the the front desk was rude and really hostile with an unbelievably bad attitude. The water in the tub wouldn't turn on more than a trickle (This was not bad water pressure, it was a literal trickle) After running Saturday morning, we discovered it, called the front desk, was answered rudely when I asked how long they thought it would be for engineering to get there with a "I will call as soon as you get off the phone" After waiting an hour, I walked down to the front desk. I asked if they had any time estimate for repairs, and joked that I was desperate for a shower after running b/c I was starving & needed to eat somewhere. The response from the woman was they didn't know. I asked if there was another room available, she said they were full and no rooms were available, I asked if maybe there might be a room at the Hampton Inn down the street, and was met with a "I can check you out out and you can go see" response. The hostility kind of floored me since I had really been nice and laughing even - just trying to get a shower! I asked if she could again check on when engineering could get to it and went back upstairs to the room. My husband said they came while I was downstairs and the guy said that they were aware of that shower needing a trick to turn on (pull out shower switch, turn knob, etc - some combo that worked) Then, we did not get clean towels even once during our 4 day/3 night stay. We were told checking in that room cleaning wasn't being done because of covid, and that if we needed towels to come to the front desk or call and they'd hand them to us. We called twice/day asking for towels, we stopped by the front desk and asked and the same hostile woman said they didn't have towels there, and she'd send them up. They never came. We followed up and were met with an attitude that was just bad and we didn't do anything to deserve it other than ask (politely!) for water and later, towels. We dripped dry after the race. My son never got a shower. The accessibility - old hotel, weirdly unaccessible room. We had a tub room that was supposed to be mobility accessible and it would have been difficult for a wheelchair bound person to navigate without assistance. My son is wheelchair bound and can't walk. We couldn't shower him because of the awkward room layout. It's an old historic hotel though and not totally unexpected. The room door was super heavy and would be hard for some people to open, let alone open and wheel themselves through. The angle to enter was extremely difficult to navigate and if the bathroom door was open, you could not open the entry door at all. We push our son, and it took both of us to get him in the room. I believe historic properties do the best they can and really am including this info to help future disabled travelers. No food on Sunday in the hotel or nearby. most of the nearby restaurants were closed on Sunday. The restaurant in the hotel was closed all the time but they had a limited menu to order from & pick up from the bar. (also closed on Sundays) I did not complain or talk to a manager while there and wish I would have. I don't complain normally - just adapt and move on. I regret that I didn't say something to management. But also feared the woman at the front desk might be management! This was my first stay in an attempt to switch from Marriott to Hilton and I'm debating going back to Marriott.
