  We arrived in County Mayo the night before the Hurling finals MAYO VS DONEGAL and Vera and John were so good to us, we stayed an extra night. Best mushrooms of the trip as part of our delicious breakfast, clean rooms and even a ride into town for the excitment. We would stay here again easily and you should as well. Everything you need, great location right outside of Wesport and close to Achill Island which is spectacular! Karen and Donna

  Good but...

  First the good bits: Hillside Lodge is easy to find, just 1.5 km from Westport on Castlebar Road, on your left (if coming from Westport, of course) passed the petrol station. There is ample parking on-site, breakfast is plenty and hosts are really great. It is quite far from the town centre, not because of the distance (some 20 minutes on foot) but because of the danger of walking on a road, without pavement (sidewalk for you Yanks) in the middle of the night. So, you should either get a cab or take your car into town. It's easy enough to park in Westport town centre, so not to worry, and the bungalow is really quiet at night. There's no free wifi, and that might be a problem for you, but if you want your room to sleep and have a shower, that's ok. Room is a tad small, so is the shower, and it might be inconvenient if you're too tall. Problem: Although it is clearly advertised on GoIreland.com AND even on the door of the property, they DO NOT TAKE credit cards. I wasn't told beforehand and they didn't have enough change (as, of course, I didn't have the exact amount). I understand that the dataphone might be a nuisance for them but they really should take the visa/mastercard signs from the door AND from their profile on GoIreland.com, and warn the guests in advance (city centre is 1.5 km away, remember). Again, I don't have a problem with them not taking credit cards, but rather them not telling you until it's too late, that's why they get such a low mark in service.
