    Such A Lovely Place

You may have to travel a long way from home like we did, but the effort could be rewarded by the opportunity to meet some very nice people. This was most certainly the case when our small tour bus brought us to Hidden Valley Cabins for lunch. Bonnie and Ian McLennan have owned and operated the resort since 1986 and they have clearly figured out how to be very congenial hosts. They provided a delicious lunch set in a stunningly beautiful location. Their resort is most interesting as it is off-grid and reached by the incredibly twisty but scenic Mt. Spec Road. If we didn't live more than 15,000 kiometres away, this is one place that my wife and I would return to in a second.

    Outstanding experience!

What an amazing stay at Hidden Valley! The cabin accommodations were perfect for our family, as were the common areas (nice pool!!) and the grounds (tons of wildlife! wallaby city!). Ian and Bonnie were fantastic hosts, they were super friendly and had a wealth of information about the Paluma area. We had a great time chatting with them throughout the stay. The meals were delicious - definitely try the rump steak! Its a bit of a drive to the nearest town so do bring snacks/food if you want to cook your own meals on site (each cabin comes with an eskie and there is a shared bbq area on site)....but seriously, try the rump steak! Without a doubt, the most memorable moment was joining Ian for a platypus tour and watching wild platypuses swim and feed in the river. Life changing doesnt even begin to describe the experience - its a must-do if visiting the cabins. Would 100% stay here again! Thank you Ian and Bonnie (and Goondi the good dog)!!!

    Best getaway for the Weekend!

What a brilliant weekend we had. It was well worth the drive, but well worth it. Ian and Bonnie were fantastic hosts, and brilliant chefs. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, it was wonderful kicking back with our own fire and a glass of wine! Make sure you go to see platypus!

    Excellent short break destination

We booked the two night deluxe package which include accommodation in a Deluxe Rustic Cabin, breakfast each day and a tour of our choice. The accommodation is spacious, neat, tidy and comfortable. All meals are quality home cooked meals with a good variety available. Ian was a great tour guide on our platypus tour. We saw many platypii in the wild at several locations. There are many activities that can be done while based in Hidden Valley. We chose a 90 minute drive to the Mt Fox crater and a hike to the top for great views all the way to Hinchinbrook Island. We also did a short 30 minute walk from the cabins to a nearby ridge where we relaxed and watched the sunset over the hills before returning for a mouth watering home cooked dinner. Ian and Bonnie were great hosts and I highly recommend Hidden Valley Cabins to anyone wanting to explore North Queensland (even locals). This is a great place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Australian bush while still enjoying all the modern conveniences.

    Total relaxation

We wanted to have a quick run through the Paluma Ranges National Park to check things out for a later, more relaxed visit and found Hidden Valley Cabins on the internet. When we arrived, it was like going into a hidden oasis in the desert - the valley is very secluded and the cabins and main buildings blend in to the hills and scenery. Our cabin was very comfortable with a huge bathroom and very comfortable bed. Outside is basic with a small gas burner to boil the kettle and a sink to was any cups etc. A bonus was a lovely cast iron fire in front of our room and even though it was November, the evening proved to be pleasantly cool so we really enjoyed the atmosphere of the fire. Our hosts Bonnie and Ian were just perfect- very relaxed and knowledgeable about the region and the wildlife - we also had an excellant meal which was brought to our room due to the current Covid restrictions and safeguards. We thoroughly recommend this place if you are looking at quality, a bit of isolation and being close to nature.
