  Great potential but still imperfect

  The location is the best you can ask, as it is straight on the kite spot. The residence is nice and new but they lack on some basic services and the cleanliness (charging 70 euro for the apartment cleaning and finding the bathrooms dirty is a shame!). That place could be gold if it was kept with average standard service level.

  Basic accommodation

  We stayed at the Herons Bay resort for a week to go kitesurfing. The location is ideal in this respect with the beach about 50m away. It is set up purely as a kitesurfing resort and the facilities reflect this. The lagoon is fantastic with shallow water. There seems to be a lack of photos available so I have put some here so you can see what it's like! Think BASIC, as that's what you'll get, like student accommodation. We stayed in one of the terraced villas, which had lots of space and was sparsely furnished. There were three bedrooms and two bathrooms plus an apparently permanently folded out sofa bed downstairs (making it unsuitable to sit on). One bedroom had no furniture except the bed however the mattresses were very comfortable indeed, the best point about the accommodation. It was also nice to sit on the balcony in the evening. Many reviews refer to it as a "work in progress" but it's not, it's obviously considered "finished" as far as we could tell. It wasn't particularly clean though, especially the bathrooms so we bought our own cleaning equipment and cleaned it ourselves. Everything was a bit smeared, like it had been wiped with the same cloth but not rinsed (windows, table etc). If you can imagine a guy who doesn't like cleaning doing the cleaning and thinking that what he had done was clean, then that's what it was like. The fridge wasn't clean either and was frozen at the back. The skirting didn't fit and there was dirt in the corners; the shower head sprayed water in all directions; plus the TV didn't work in the bedroom (they moved it upstairs for us) but wasn't fixed despite telling they would fix it. The "reception" is the prefab structure at the front where the bar is located. The "hotel" part is not a hotel, it is a terraced block with each block comprising a front door with 3 apartments inside (2 upstairs, 1 downstairs). We viewed one, which was small with poor mattresses and no view and we were glad not to be in there! Only one room of the three has a balcony. Breakfast was variable; sometimes good, sometimes less so. If you go too late then there is none left. Car hire is also highly recommended as there is nothing nearby so you are reliant on what's on offer there. Overall, it could be much nicer than it is but it's not and it won't be. That said, if you want a great kitesurfing location with basic accommodation then that's what you'll get and you'll have a nice time!
