    It didnt disappoint!

After 2 months of isolation, we booked the Hepburn Spa Retreat for an overnight stay. We stayed at Villa 10 which is on the top floor. It has nice views but because it was raining we rarely used the balcony. Theres a manual for everything which is useful to operate the gas log heater, the dishwasher, reverse cycle air conditioning etc. The kitchenette has the basic untensils you need like knife, chopping boards, bottle opener, griddle pan, saucepan and dinnerware for 4 people. Theres a microwave and full size frigde which is awesome. We filled it with the things we bought from the supermarket and cooked al our food during our stay. The marble bath is amazing. We brought our own Dr Teals bath foam and salts to maximize the bath. Theres only shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and body wash in the kit provided. Bed is comfy. The toilet is inside a stained glass so theres still privacy. Super enjoyed the double showerhead! We are going back again for sure whenever we need those relaxing weekend away far home.

    Variable Experience

This was a strange one. I managed to book a villa for one night during a very busy holiday period in Daylesford, so I was happy about that, but with COVID restrictions etc it was hard to know what would be available. I believe there were some staff shortages in Daylesford at the time which may explain some issues, but reading the reviews there were similar problems in other years. Anyway, so I booked the room, but then could not book any massages or anything really, other than the Sanctuary at the bathhouse. It was very hard to get a reply to either phone calls or emails, or they would reply days later when I had already sorted alternative services. I was lucky enough to score a massage from a provider who did house visits, but could only get the appointment at the time of checking in. I called and emailed several days ahead to ask if I could check in half an hour early and eventually was told that this was not possible to answer until the actual day. (Apparently, this is the busiest hotel in the entire world. ) I don't think I've ever had a hotel answer this way. I mean, usually they just make a note to ensure that, on the day, that room is serviced earlier than others, or just say no straight up, and ringing on the actual day is more likely to get a no than a yes, but not here. On the day, of course, they would not answer the phone or return messages so I went directly there and enquired at the desk - lucky I did as it seemed lots of people were not going to get to check in even on time, much less early. This was explained as being due to being short staffed. Now, having made my request in person, the staff (who did not seem exceptionally busy when I arrived) were helpful and did their best, so can't complain about the service at that point. A probable issue is that staff at the bath house are expected to deal with bath house and spa bookings and visitors as well as accommodation and perhaps this model is just not working for them. So, I go away and return a little early and it has indeed been finished and I do get the room and to keep my expensive massage appointment. I had read a bit about the rooms and expected to be disappointed, but I really liked the villa I had (Villa 8). There were a couple of not so great things - like no provision whatsoever of WIFI info for the apparent 'free' wifi, and a broken tile on the steps to the spa bath, but in my experience, lots of Australian accommodation providers are sneaky about WIFI so not really that unusual. They did say to ring reception if you have any issues but by then we knew how that turns out so we didn't bother. The room was very clean, the bed very comfortable. I really can't say anything bad about the actual room. We had a very pleasant stay and enjoyed visiting the bathhouse and sanctuary the next morning. We had a relaxing spa in the villa. It was a bit disappointing that all the bath salts etc were additional cost. But by this time we did have that vibe that this place is basically a bit penny pinching in general. Probably best to stay here if you don't really need anything from anyone there. Like, a nice place to stay, but not relying on getting in on time or being able to access their services easily. Once we had the code to the room it was all much better as we could stop depending on them. But again, can't complain about any of the face to face service or the servicing of the room as it was very clean and the cleaners we ran into were very polite and friendly. One issue was that they did not leave robes for us but was not a big issue. Would I stay here again? Sure. But next time, I would be sure to not need access to the room on time or access to the staff prior to arrival and (in the absence of action from the management) that would improve the experience no end. The parking is pretty tight too - strictly one car per villa.

    Luxury accommodation

We were very pleased with the large spa bath, double shower and comfortable bed in apartment 4. There was some problem at check-in but John (manager) was very professional and gifted us passes to the spa/bathhouse. All the staff were lovely but big shout out to Amy who chased up the clothing we accidentally left there. For the price, the lack of WIFI is disappointing. We will return.

I would have rather just stayed at home.

Our first getaway post covid and it was highly disappointing. When we arrived we were initially impressed but soon noticed many issues. Ants were crawling all over the wall by the spa, modesty covering in the toilet was ripped and damaged and wine glasses still with lipstick stains in the cupboard. It was a hot day (36degrees) and the room was unbearably hot. The cooling was blowing but not effective. Eventually we noticed the gas fire had been left on and the remote wouldn't work to turn it off. Called reception multiple times for help but rang out every time. After finally finding a dial on the actual unit we got the heater off, but it was too late to cool the room down and only got some sleep once the cool change came overnight. We found it strange that check in was across the road in the bathhouse reception and to contact anyone you need to dial an outside line to receive no assistance. Sitting inside at night, looked up to see the lights swarming with bugs despite not windows or doors being open. The place is in need of some maintenance- the back door doesn't slide, strip lighting covers on the stairs were falling off and coffee table was so rickerty a gentle breeze could break it. It was a far stretch from the relaxing, romantic carefree night away we were hoping for. Needless to say, we won't be returning or recommending it to anyone!

Serene, and a magnificent spa environment

Professionally nestled in a beautiful setting, surrounds. Top notch service, massage therapists at the top of their game and a relaxing environment make this a full experience. A little time out of your life would be well spent at A venue such as this. It is not cheap, but worth the experience
