A warm, inviting, character-filled home.I stayed at Hawley House at the beginning of summer, amongst the Covid pandemic. As soon as you enter the property, up the plant-lined driveway, you feel as if you have been transported to another world. The (five!) friendly dogs greet you as you head to the main house - a weathered, white, character house, which is reminiscent of another century. The staff are friendly & inviting, and nothing is too much trouble. The food for breakfast & dinner is as local as you can get, from the veggie garden & the suppliers in the immediate area. A warning though: the portion are large for dinner, but it's worth splitting a dessert (the sticky date especially!) with whomever you are with. A special shout out to Sophie, the owner, who seems to be able to do anything around the estate including cooking, gardening, restoring, and still having time to care for the menagerie of animals and making you feel like one of the family. I mention this, because it is definitely a family home - and you are just lucky enough to be welcomed into the family for the night or so that you are staying. There's no sterility to be found here, unlike chain hotels. This accommodation is cultured & eclectic, with hidden delights found in the original artworks in every room, and gorgeous nooks in the expansive gardens. Being built in the 1800's means the buildings are not perfect, but that just adds to the charm. Anyone who has ever owned a heritage house knows the upkeep that's involved. I feel like I discovered a hidden gem when I stayed here and need to share it with the world. I will be returning, as soon as humanly possible.

Beautiful heritage accommodation with all of the quirks!Staying at Hawley House is the perfect experience for people wanting the peace of being away from the cities, being near a great beach and being surrounded by beautiful gardens... but who are happy to soak up the ambience and quirks of a very old house and all it has to offer. The house appears to be family owned and run and the love they have for the property shows with the old family photos in the "exhibition room". There is also love provided to the guests by the four German Shepherds that lounge around the entrance hall at all times of the day. You are well catered for in accommodation, with the rooms being large and comfortable with full ensuite and separate bath. Don't expect 2020 era facilities but hopefully you're not going to if you've booked this 150yr old house. The breakfast is more than sufficient and the cooked option doesn't disappoint. If you book for dinner then you'll be provided with a good range of options, all of which are top quality. We were surprised to find out that Sophie (our host) was the chef for the night as well!! The grounds offer good walks with lots of bird life and the occasional marsupial life (we saw at least one wallaby). This was our second trip to Hawley House with the first being 25 years ago and we're not going to wait that long to go back!

I found my nirvanaWe stayed at Hawley on the way back to Sydney. We live in Tasmania for part of the year, and Hawley makes for a great place to stay before or after the ferry trip. The fact that our two dogs are welcome guests makes the choice especially easy. I'm amazed at the occasional negative reviews on here. The property is gracefully ageing; that adds to its charm. If you want beige and characterless you most surely won't find it at Hawley. What you will find is homely accommodation and terrific hospitality from Sophie and her staff. I can also recommend the evening meal. We ate in the dining room for the first time and rest assured it won't be the last. The food was super fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The table service was attentive and the spacing between the courses was spot on. Looking forward to our next stay.

BlissfulPerfect weather in which to enjoy Hawley. A run on the beach followed by a swim, then a soak in the rooftop bath admiring the views out to Narawntapu finishing with Sophies wonderful cooking. Theres a reason I keep coming back and am always sad to get on the plane and go home. The gardens are beautiful and the location perfect. Looking forward to my next visit
