Only Lodgings, but Good Central LocationNote this is the Hawks Lane Lodge, which is a few hundred yards from the main Castle Lodge Hotel. I stayed there with my family. The staff were helpful and friendly, with a continental breakfast provided unless you want to walk to the main hotel. The noise for breakfast starts at 8am so you may not sleep to late if you're on the ground floor. Despite the central location, overall I felt the the accommodation was a bit expensive (£190/night) - it needed a bit of a makeover, especially the bathroom, which looked through a net curtain to a central courtyard - this means that you largely have to keep the curtains shut all the time. The power shower didn't really work, a trickle more than powerful and fluctuating temperature. The bathroom was a bit cold and dated. The room, whilst spacious enough, did feel like it need some TLC; upgrade in mattresses and decor. Otherwise, if you're looking for somewhere just a few minutes from the main Canterbury buzz, but not have too much external noise, this may be ok for you. There is a single, car parking space at the front of the hotel, which if you're lucky you may manage to bag. The main Castle Lodge has 8 or so spaces too, but you'd have to be early to get one of those too. For me, overall, no repeat visit.

A mixed bagFirst of all fantastic customer service . Our booking from an aggregator site wasnt communicated properly and our request for a twin was lost in the ether. This was immediately corrected at no cost to us by providing an extra single room . Thank you! The rooms in this annex to the main hotel are spacious and well decorated. Shower very disappointing, towels big and fluffy though! Tv reception terrible and mattresses far too soft for our liking. Good to see the front being painted as we left. Having to take the 5 minute walk back to the hotel for the hot breakfast is a bit sub optimal . Very central but quiet location . Would return .

Hawk's Lane Lodge now Peregrine HouseI booked to stay at Peregrine House, which is an annex of another hotel. Owing to a change of ownership, it was all rather confusing, but worked out very well in the end. I booked for Peregrine House, and was told it was on Hawks Lane, and I was to get my keys from Castle Hotel.. Then, immediately, I received another email saying I had to collect my key instead from Pilgrim's Hotel, The Friars! I turned up at Pilgrim's Hotel and the young lady at Reception was very nice, and explained the confusion was due to change of ownership that week. I then went to my room in Peregrine Hotel. The sign I saw was Hawks Lane Lodge, and later I saw that there is another sign above that saying Peregrine House. So when they get that sorted, it will be great!! Peregrine Hotel is down a little lane, off the main High Street, and was a bit dark at night. I am a lady on my own. But Peregrine House is ok once inside. The door is secure, and it is very clean inside. I stayed in Room 4 upstairs. It was very quiet and the window looked out on to an inside courtyard below. No street or other noise. Furniture in the room is dated, but ok. Room was a single, and the bed was ok but mattress could do with a firmer one instead. Bedding comfortable and clean. I was however rather cold in the night, in spite of a duvet on the bed, but there was no extra blanket. The en suite was fine, clean. Shower, toilet, basin, and shampoos, soap etc provided. In the room, there is a kettle, tea, coffee, biscuits, a nice decent sized mug, Also, a hairdryer. There is a small TV on the wall. One of the ceiling light bulbs had blown, and the strip light over the basin did not work. I left a message for housekeeping. Wonderful big, soft, cosy bathsheet towel! Clean carpet. Would stay again. Would recommend...as long as you realise that Reception and breakfast is at Pilgrim's hotel (opposite the Marlow Theatre). "Hot" breakfast at Pilgrims (included in my room rate) was "ok". I chose the Vegetarian option and declined the egg. But it was just two rather dry vegetarian "sausages", a ready bought heated rosti, a few mushrooms, a small spoonful of wilted spinach, a couple of spoonfuls of beaked beans and a tomato. Dining room there at Pilgrim's almost too quiet! Toast, croissants etc available at buffet bar. A GOOD POINT IS THAT YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR BAG AFTER CHECK OUT, IN A LOCKED CUPBOARD AT PILGRIM'S, SO YOU DON'T NEED TO WALK AROUND ALL DAY WITH IT!

A house of bedrooms!A very odd set up here! We booked this through Hotels.com and wanted a central location, which this most definitely was. Check in was at the sister hotel a five minute walk away. Breakfast was also at the sister hotel! What happens if its raining? Do guests go without breakfast? You cant drive between the two properties. The room was fine, small (but I knew that at the time of booking) but had everything you could need. We didnt use the tea or coffee making facilities as, when I went to fill the kettle from the bathroom tap, the water was cloudy inside the kettle. I wasnt sure if it was the water or the kettle so we decided not to chance it. The bed was very comfortable and on the firm side. After we checked out, once wed had breakfast, we were able to go back to the room and leave the key there. The car park was another 5 minutes in the other direction and the cost for this was £7 for 24 hours and gets added to your bill. Great location for sightseeing in Canterbury.

Basic ComfortWe booked this place because it had a quadruple room at a reasonable price. As stated on the booking information, the key was picked up from a sister hotel at 18 The Friars. Check in was straightforward and friendly. There was one double bed and two fairly narrow single beds in the room. The double was comfortable, but had a loose bed head which made a knocking sound if you were not careful. (I forgot to mention this to the staff, as Im sure it would be easy to fix). Breakfast was served at the nearby hotel, and was quite adequate. Gluten free options were available, and appreciated as one of our party has Coeliac disease. We stayed 2 nights in a comfortable, well priced, central hotel. If you are not expecting the Ritz, you will be happy. :).
