This was a night club not a hotel for sleepingThe price was really high for a double room for one night (200 euros) but it was near the concert venue so we booked it anyway. The check in was smooth. The beer garden staff were great and dinner was good. When we got back at midnight there was a wedding party at the hotel and the music was extremely loud. Unable to sleep (1.30 am) I complained at the reception desk and was told the music would be stopping soon. At 2.30 am still unable to sleep I complained again and the male staff/supervisor was extremely rude when I told him I did not want to move to another room at 2.30 in the morning. The bed was uncomfortable, springs could be felt through the mattress. No shower gel/shampoo or coffee/tea facilities in the room which for the price I would have expected. The breakfast looked like it was mainly the leftover food from the wedding party buffet from the previous night. Nightmare experience for me. On check out the female staff member agreed to reduce the bill to 100 Euros. Never again !!!!

Not a business hotel - Avoid at all costsVery poor hotel standard. Rooms are 70's and extremely dated. Room smelled horrendous and it was obvious others had been smoking in it before me. No shower gel/shampoo. Room was freezing. Restaurant meal was basic and breakfast was very basic. My colleague found someone else's smelly socks in her room after arrival. Overall I would not rate this hotel and will not stay there again until is is rebuilt. Very poor experience. I TRAVEL ALL OVER THE WORLD AND STAY AT MANY HOTELS EVERY MONTH. This hotel rates among the worst I ever stayed at.

Gloomy and depressingStayed here whilst attending a fair in Essen. It does the job - barely, and is an easy walk to the central station. But it is dark, unmodernised, uninspiring in any way. My room didn't have enough curtain to block out light, and the bed was uncomfortable. The room was large and warm though. Food was uninspiring (breakfast and dinner). Overall it's a bit 'rough'

Unusual curtains and a dated designI have stayed at four hotels in Oberhausen during my five trips there but would quite clearly say that this is probably the worst of the four for relaxation. Would not recommend this place at all for the price that its advertised for. The curtains in the room were too small letting in tons of natural light, the bed was small and uncomfortable, there was lots of noise from a church and job centre nearby early in the morning, the lights in the hallway were permanently off giving what can only be described as an eerie feel and the hotel itself felt very dated. That said the staff were very nice, it was two minutes walk from Feuenwache tram stop and the power shower was very effective but for 60 for a night, I expect relaxation and a good nights sleep. Sadly I going neither at the Haus Union and was left very disappointed.

Excellent StayWe had an excellent stay in this typically German hotel, where most of the staff are, of course, are able to speak English. The hot and cold self-service buffet breakfasts cater for both European and British tastes. The rooms are well appointed, but you are only provided with a bar of soap, so take shampoo, shower gel and flannels! The hotel is located near a tram stop taking you directly into the Centro shopping area. Any drinks taken in the bar cannot be charged to the room, but can be settled with a credit card. Fee Wi-Fi is provided. A highly recommended hotel with excellent staff.
