  Preference for German guests? CONFIRM your booking.

  We were attending a party during the very popular weekend of 'Rhein in Flammen', therefore booked our room FIVE months in advance through expedia.fr (we are English but live in France) On arrival, which was actually a little before the requested arrival time of 2pm, we were told our room was not available and we were offered two single rooms in an alternative hotel in an unsuitable location. The guy on reception tried to tell us the rooms were already full, he was not really interested in us until I started to raise my voice and explain that this was totally unacceptable for a reservation made FIVE months before. He also said he had tried to contact us that morning but the number he had was wrong, I insisted in seeing the number which turned out to be correct and I had no missed call on my phone. And in any case, how RUDE to try and contact guests on the day of their reservation to tell them that actually there was no reservation for them!!! Meanwhile, two other German guests arrived to check in, who were clearly going to be offered their room. We were eventually given our room, really only because I stubbornly refused the alternative. Much later in the day some Swiss guests (who were also attending the same party as us) who had reserved their room through booking.com in Switzerland were given exactly the same story of no room available. If you reserve this hotel online outside of Germany BEWARE! You may not find your room available when you arrive. Our experience could be due to the fact that this was a very busy tourist weekend in the area, and rooms were being sold at a higher rate than those who had booked online, who knows? But the attitude was despicable. Shame, as the hotel is situated in a road of beautiful houses, mid way between the Rhine and the town centre. We had a nice top floor room with a very clean bathroom. Free wi-fi worked well. The hotel is well kept and the breakfast was good, served in a lovely room. For this reason I have raised my rating from one to two stars, but the reception left us stone cold. However nice a hotel is, you cannot treat guests like that.

  there are one major and a few minor factors in order to be excellent

  cleanliness was okay, breakfast was also fine. The environment is a nice and upper-class one, however the hotel is located directly in front of a street. Except of the bed was everything adequate, which is a main factor, at least for me. We are a couple and the mattresses were really uncomfortable because it wasn't one big mattress. Instead there were two, which moved apart during the night so there was a gap in the middle. This made the nights a bit uncomfortable.

  Quaint little hotel almost next to the river Rhine

  The grand villa which holds this hotel is in the middle of the charming neighborhood where many embassies and residencies were located during Bonn's time as the capital of West Germany. It's a decent stretch from the city center, but subways and buses are at hand (or rent a bicycle!). I stayed more than a week in room 8 on the third and top floor, which had a great bed but a desk a little bit too small. The hotel has a very homely and informal feeling, but services are still carried out in a professional manner.

  Basic comfort in a beautiful street

  The hotel is located in a beautiful area and not hard to reach. Rooms have all one needs and are clean. Staff is very friendly, also when one does not speak German. Breakfast is served as a buffet and offers a variety of breads, cheese, ham, eggs, cereals, fruits,... Price was not cheap, but then I also booked last minute. From what I saw, I think breakfast is the only meal offered in the hotel, though you can have bread and cheese for dinner if required.
