    Last Minute Stay

We were due to stay in a house we own nearby but the boiler had failed and the lack of heating and water were challenges too far. A quick search led us to Hardwick Hall who, when called, were able to accommodate us for a single night. The Rate was a little higher than the bottom line on the Agency but we were given a superior room with lovely bathroom and a great view as we saw the following morning. It was nearly 7pm by the time we booked in. We were warmly and efficiently welcomed and given our room cards. I am not sure that the Butler Mannequin by Reception is a great selling point but its a sign that it is a little quirky. We went up to the First Floor and were quite close to the Lift in 304. The Room had good proportions with an excellent 6ft bed, 2 armchairs and a desk chair. There were plenty of power points and a couple of bottles of water as well as a tea tray with biscuits. There was a good quality flat screen tv and the usual facilities of iron, hairdryer etc. The bathroom had a large double-ended bath, a large walk-in shower and twin hand basins with good quality toiletries. The toilet was also separate which is a good feature. The room was very clean and we were impressed. Some of the furniture and fittings are slightly worn and dated but that was not a major issue. We had a couple if cocktails and a couple of cafe lattes which were fine and well priced. Breakfast the following morning was pretty good and we both had the Full English which was included in the cost. It was fairly quiet but the Staff had taken great care with the Covid-19 precautions and we felt safe throughout our stay. We did not have chance to try the Dining or extensive facilities. It is easy to see why its a popular wedding venue. I have given a 4 star rating. It deserves that for the cleanliness, value and helpful staff. We normally stay at either larger luxury hotels or high-end boutique hotels so the numbers of staff would normally be larger. But our room was comfortable and we slept well. It will need a little updating and investment once we move out of the present troubles but we would be very happy to stay again. Heating was fine Im pleased to say!

    Wonderful experience....!!

We have just returned from a 7 night stay. The hotel is beautifully located in Park land and a great location to explore the North East, with plenty of country and coastal walks. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly and went above and beyond to make us welcome. The food was exceptional and although The Rib Room has a wide selection of locally sourced meat on the menu, they were very happy to accommodate vegetarians and I thoroughly enjoyed a varied menu through out my stay . Over all we had a perfect week with good company, great food and great location.

Afternoon Tea at Hardwick Hall Hotel

My wife and I visited this hotel on 22nd October to celebrate our 54th Wedding Anniversary with an Afternoon Tea. We are both in our 70"s and this was our first visit to a restaurant in many months due to the current Covid restrictions. My wife was quite nervous being close to other diners However our waiter, James was extremely helpful and removed any discomfort by moving us to a table in the lovely breakfast dining-room. The meal was excellent with a superb variety of items served on a fine bone china tea service. We highly recommend the choice of this venue for anyone who enjoys afternoon teas in the traditional way. Our special thanks to James for a very enjoyable visit.

Great bar staff with and big shout out to Cameron for looking after us so well! The hotel is set in beautiful surrounding and our room faced on to an amazing view. I will definitely be coming back here we felt so safe and all the COVID rules are adhered to.

    Lovely setting in difficult times

Was stationed in this area for work and found this lovely c17 former grand house, now a hotel. It is set in acres of parkland with various follies dotted around a large lake. It was during the 2nd "lockdown" period so no restaurant or bar but despite that the hotel staff were attentive and helpful. The room was excellent with good size shower and bath. We walked into Sedgefield a couple of times but as a country house it is very much out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the town centres etc.
