    what a trip!

Me and my friend booked a last minute trip to happy days hotel in Malia just a few days before flying. We stayed at happy days only paying 330 for a package including flights and transfers. We were unsure whether to go for it with covid but we thought why not lets just do it and we definitely didnt regret it! We got greeted very nicely of the staff being informed about corona virus rules and regulations and about any events that were still happening. We went on holiday for the sun and the booze and happy days was the perfect place. The cocktails during the day were lovely. The hotel was in a great location just a 10/15 minute walk down to the strip. Rooms were great, all we needed, very clean and provided with towels. I cant begin to say how helpful all the staff were at the hotel - especially Georgia. The hotel is run by a family and what a family they are doing a excellent job keeping customers happy all day and all evening. The food at the bar is a great cheap price but honestly very very nice and fresh. Overall this hotel is a excellent stay, clean rooms, brilliant staff and in a excellent location.

    Comfortable and enjoyable short break

I stayed at Happy Days the first week of September. I was welcomed from my transfer bus by Faye at reception who was very friendly, had a nice chat and gave us our room keys. A room deposit (you get this back at checkout) and small tax is payable at the property, as well as air con. I had read mixed reviews about HD and had booked expect something fairly basic (my partner and I dont spend much time in the hotel)... I was really pleased with our studio room! It was very clean, well equipped enough for a comfortable self catering stay and the room was fresh looking and quite modern. Our balcony had a sea view and a mountain view. The bathroom had beautiful tiling and the shower was great, very powerful. We were provided with towels. The pool is clean, with lots of sunbeds and a bar with friendly staff and a decent sized menu of snacks, cocktails etc. Guests at the hotel varied from teenagers/early twenties groups, families and older couples. We are a 25 year old couple and for us this was a nice mix. The beach is around a 15 minute walk and there is a choice of shops and eateries within a 3 minute walk of the hotel. For anyone thinking of travelling during the Covid pandemic it certainly can be done safely - staff at the hotel are wearing masks, guests are also asked to do so whilst in public areas of the hotel. The sunbeds and tables at the pool bar can easily be spaced out for social distancing. Masks are required to be worn in shops around Greece at the time of writing this post. Staff in restaurants and bars are also wearing masks but happy for you to remove them for eating/drinking. We went down the main strip of Malia a couple of times and it is quite busy 8pm onward until 12 when the bars are required to shut at the moment. We chose to explore the old town area quite a bit as its quieter with beautiful authentic family restaurants and easier to distance from others whilst enjoying your evening. Overall we had a fantastic short trip in Crete and can not wait to return! Big thanks to staff at Happy Days :)

Happy days? More like had better days.

I stayed here with a group of friends at the start of September and for the most part it was perfectly fine. The food was lovely, the pool was great and the rooms were just what we expected but then, cracks began to show. On our first night, one of my friends was going up the marble stair case to bed and slipped on the wet floor (will insert pictures) and cracked her head open. She had to get stitches. She walked out to where the security guard and the owner were and instead of offering to book her a taxi or give us a number they said medical centre 15 minute walk. So she walked, with blood gushing from her head. When mentioned to the owners about the wet floor, they laughed and made jokes about her brain being on the stairs but Im sure they wouldnt be laughing had we made a claim and taken it further. That same night I bought a nice little plant pot for my mum from a souvenir shop. The security guard accused me of stealing it, despite me paying 5 for it. To make matters worse I hid it on my balcony as I was going to my friends room for a bit, when I came back it was gone. I can only assume the security guard took it as he was the only one apart from my friend who saw me put it there. I mentioned it to the owner the next day and the day after that and she kept saying that shed ask him about it. But she never did! Thats 5 down the drain. Youre supposed to feel safe with a security guard, no? Finally, a few nights in, our friend came back after us but we werent in our room because we were in our other friends room (where this friend was also sleeping, just to be clear she wasnt in our room) but she didnt know where we were so she asked if the security guard could open our room for us and he did! If this isnt a complete invasion of privacy I dont know what is and also what if she wasnt our friend??? He didnt know that she knew us, he didnt know if they were her real intentions or whether she just wanted to take stuff from a strangers room. All I can say is thank god she was our friend. Also, had we been in there changing or anything I think we wouldve been a bit frightened had a 50 something man let himself in unannounced. I just think that is unacceptable. Its just a shame because the place itself and the food was lovely but they really did let themselves down.
