Good location downtownNot only are you within walking distance of many things, you are a longer walk/short drive to even more places and neighborhoods (like the popular Over-the-Rhine). The hotel itself is in the upper floors of a historic building, yet has been updated with all the modern amenities you would want. (It somehow is two hotels in one as it is also a Homewood Suites by Hilton, so dont let this confuse you). The staff were friendly, and the woman at the front desk was even kind enough to upgrade our room as the hotel was slow when we stayed. Breakfast during COVID are granola bars and such with coffee. They offer valet parking, but there are also several public garages in the same block that will save you a little. My only negative, which isnt even directly related to the hotel, is that whatever the building is that the hotel is in, seemed to always have vagrants coming and going out of it on the first floor where the elevator bank is. We had to step away from them and decline their requests a few times when we were leaving or arriving.

Disappointing stayMy wife and I were passing through and thought we would like to check out this city for the evening. We looked for unique hotels to stay at and their thumbnail immediately drew us in. The entrance of this hotel is the best part of the hotel. When you walk into the front door and see that at one point it was an absolutely beautiful building. That's about where the historic beauty stops. I am basing my opinion not of the entire stay but of the hotel itself. It was valentine's weekend so they were busy and it was hard to drop off at the front door. I believe they had valet parking but they were overwhelmed. It may be different at other times. The parking garage elevators were in a state of disrepair. They had a note on the down button that had been there for a while saying that it did not work and you had to press the up button to call an elevator. This is not what I would expect for a Hilton property, whether they own the parking or not it should be fixed. When we went up to our room the elevator in the building seemed odd and then we realized that they had converted the original elevator to have some sort of skin on the inside. It made it seem much smaller but not a big deal. The saddest part of this hotel was that there were some obvious areas that they could have embraced the character of the building but chose not to do so. For instance, the elevator doors on the level we were staying at were spray painted (can spray it looked like) in an uneven layer over the existing scroll work that was on the door. It was really sad to see that they did this. They could have spent a little more effort in enhancing the beauty of the building but took the easy way out.

What a Neat Building! When researching this hotel, I was captivated by the fact that it is in the old Cincinnati Enquirer Building. When we arrived, the gold on the revolving door was incredible. The word "Enquirer" is still at the top of the main entrance. When you step inside, you feel like you've stepped back in time. The original Mailbox is there and then you see the beautiful Lobby - wow! The floor and ceiling are beautiful and there are still 6 elevators from the original building. I just imagined all of the newspaper employees going about their business on a typical workday. You take the elevator to the 2nd Floor, where the Lobby is for both hotels (the Homewood Suites rooms are on the lower floors and Hampton Inn rooms are on the upper floors). Before you approached the front desk, you needed to step in front of a digital thermometer, which scanned you and took your temperature. A voice said, "normal temperature, please proceed", so there was no guesswork! The person at the front desk was very friendly and gave us physical room keys, even though I had already checked in using the Hilton Honors App and had a digital key. Later that evening she even showed us the really neat lower level, which had a grand piano and a huge old metal safe. Even the stairs to get there were amazing. What was really cool, though, is that you could see the markings on the floor (looked original, by the way) where the printing presses were! Just an all around wonderful job of restoring the building. The valet parking was a nice touch, so you didn't have to worry about finding parking in the area. After we checked in, we went to our room, which was very nice and had been cleaned, as evident by the sticker that sealed the door After we put our things in the room, we headed out and were able to walk around the area to just about everywhere! We also took advantage of the FREE Cincinnati Bell Connector (light rail). That was so nice, although we wished a station had been closer to the hotel. It was a bit of a walk to the nearest station, but not bad. I loved the history of the building and the fact that so much of the original parts were left, yet it was updated enough to house TWO hotels! I noticed the original mailbox right off of the 1st floor elevator lobby and the outer parts of the elevators definitely looked original. I can't get over how neat of an idea it was to restore an old building like that. We would definitely stay again!
