My first choice for a stay in Hamamatsu

I stayed at the Hamamatsu Hotel for a week in September, 2013, and some of that was extended due to Typhoon ManYi. First of all, I liked the surrounding area and the walk from the station. (With luggage, allow yourself 10 minutes.) The area on the south side of the station is the older section of town and I like the look and feel of the Japan of past times, as well as being very close to ordinary homes and mom-and-pop stores. The hotel, however, is completely modern. My room was cozy and comfortable -- very typical of Japanese hotel rooms. Internet access was via wire. Television offered tremendous choice of stations and free movie channels. Bathrooms were very nice with modern "washlet" toilets. The front lobby area is immaculate and a very nice place to meet with people. A grand piano adds a nice touch. I can't say enough good about the eating area (formerly a restaurant). The morning breakfast service is first rate, healthy, delicious, and FREE. Staff is extremely friendly. I especially like the ambiance of the room as a place to work after meal hours. The music system seems to always be playing something that promotes a great atmosphere, and the design of the room was very appealing to me. The hotel also sets out a free evening meal of curry rice, which I nearly always took advantage of -- along with a beer from the vending machine on the 5th floor. With two free meals a day, I could splurge a bit on lunch. Also in the vending machine room is a coin-operated laundry with two washers and two dryers. My only beef with that is that there is no temperature control on the dryers, which run hot, so be advised. I greatly look forward to another visit to Hamamatsu and another stay at this hotel.

Just another over-dry, cramped business hotel ...

The area is uninspiring, although it is only 10 minutes from the station. The room was very small. The air conditioning was impossible - either too hot or too cold, and the atmosphere was much too DRY = I didn't sleep well. There was a lot of noise from other guests going to their rooms, or holding rather loud conversations in the corridor. Although it was a "NO-SMOKING" corridor, there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke on the floor throughout our stay. Although the advertising said "free Wifi", we only had a LAN cable. The TV did NOT provide 100 channels (that worked). Free curry and rice in the evening was a special treat! Delicious! Also free tea or coffee (good quality coffee). The breakfast, for non-Japanese, was dull. Where was any kind of fruit or yoghourt?

Excellent Hotel with an affordable price

I stayed in this hotel for a night. The bed was really comfortable. There is a bathtub for you to soaked in. For me, it was great as I was drenched from the rain. They also offer free welcome drink and curry rice for dinner. Breakfast was buffet but by the first round, I was full. They cooked really well too. The staff at the reception was sweet and polite. The previous lady whom I met at 2pm was helpful in arranging to bring my bag-pack to my room. All in all, it was an enjoyable stay.
