  Fun at Hallgarth Manor

  Visit March 18th. Day out with best friend for lunch. Ended up making it a Christmas day out. Roast turkey dinner with stuffing and all the trimmings. Very tasty. Fab staff made the day for us we had a good laugh. Asked for Cranberry sauce and said it's just like Christmas and then Dawn appeared with a couple of Christmas crackers. Pulled the crackers, popped the hats on and then ended up having Christmas pudding. Joked with Dawn our waitress saying we'll be seeing Santa Claus next. As we stuck into Christmas pudding Santa arrived full costume, beard, jingle bells the lot. Brilliant day. Best staff, fab food, beautiful decor. Finished off after in cosy, comfy lounge area with gorgeous chandeliers and colourful sofas with a coffee. Thanks Hallgarrh Manor Hotel and restaurant you made our day. Just what we needed to cheer us all up and gave a good laugh. Would definitely recommend the food is so tasty and everyone so friendly. 10/10 xx

  Excellent nights stay following a wedding

  Recently lucky enough to stay at Hallgarth manor, following my sisters wedding. As you can imagine with all the restrictions, I was not expecting the best of evenings. However I was proved wrong due to the fantastic staff who laid on a Covid safe area for our small wedding party and also arranged in advance evening individual snacks hand delivered to each family table. The rooms have recently been refurbished and were very comfortable can recommend room 1 a deluxe room with comfy bed and large shower. Breakfast was good, and the room rate excellent value for money. A special thanks to Cassie for all her hard work sorting everything out for us.

  Very comfy manor house

  Stayed for four nights, excellent breakfast, excellent evening meals although limited choice because of covid 19. Room was very comfy, hotel staff are doing all they can under difficult circumstances.

  Total lack of atmosphere

  We checked in at 3pm and stood for ages pressing the bell. The service we eventually received with unfriendly and really not welcoming. The room was nice enough and the bed in fairness very comfortable but the hotel lacked any warmth or atmosphere. We didnt stay for breakfast which may have improved the impression of the hotel. We were not given a WiFi code and could not find it in the room when we returned following dinner out. A disappointing experience which is a great shame as we are regular visitors to Durham and hoped we had found somewhere special

  Affordable luxury

  I spent two nights in the Sanctuary Suite for a mini-break with my girlfriend. The room was perfect, even better than I had expected considering how cheap it was. Also, it was situated in a quiet village 10 minutes from Durham city centre: a perfect area for a quiet night, good walking, and easy access to a stunning historic city. I looked for flaws to understand the costings and I could only come up with three minor issues: 1. You could hear the music playing in the bar/dining area downstairs, loud enough for lyrics to be discernible. However, it was switched off at a reasonable hour. 2. The carpet in the room was a bit scruffy. 3. The coffee machine didn't have the correct coffee pods however, I had breakfast at the hotel and my cup was refilled as many times as I could've wanted. On the plus side: The shower room was gorgeous, just as expansive as the photos make it look. being able to shower next to my girlfriend but without compromising on water temperature was a joy. The toiletries provided were high quality and felt nice on my skin, I didn't use the ones I brought with me. The bed was comfy, allowing a good nights sleep. The room also got dark enough to sleep well. However, for both of us, the bath was the dreamiest aspect of this stay. We could both relax in it and watch films together, whilst enjoying the chilled prosecco already waiting for us in the room. I have never felt so relaxed or been able to stay somewhere so pleasantly decadent. There was also a mistake made on my part to do with billing and the staff, especially Christine, have bent over backwards to help remedy it. Would I change anything about the stay? The only thing I might change would be the fact that I could hear music downstairs. In reality it was not a major issue at all and, oddly, it provided a reassuring masking sound which meant I wasn't aware of anybody else in the hotel.
