Not the best hotel in NKC

I spent 3 weeks in this hotel which wasn't my choice. The rooms are relatively clean but old looking. The bathroom is also showing signs of age. There is hot water in a small immersion tank in the room cupboard which will last for a relatively long shower before cooling down. The bed sheets were mostly clean and the top cover I couldn't tell. The pillows were all stained (see picture) which even I had trouble accepting, I've slept in some rough places before, but when you are a paying guest this isn't acceptable. If staying here check the sheets and the pillow under the covers. Pillow covers aren't changed regularly either so you might have to inform housekeeping if you want them changed. I only saw one cockroach in my room during my 3 weeks which was in its final death throes. You might find stains on the walls here and there. There are no additional amenity items in the bathroom so don't expect shower gel or shampoo, in fact don't expect anything; take you own with you. There isn't a kettle or tea making facilities so you should take your own. I brought a collapsible kettle just for this trip as I knew from a previous visit that there are no such facilities in the room. Laundry service was fast (same day) and to a good standard, however there was no bag for clothes or the paper form to complete. I asked for a laundry form but couldn't have a bag on my first week. I put my clothes in a bag from a duty free shop I'd acquired on the journey in. Even after this I would have to ask for papers and bags, they won't put them in your room automatically. The wifi in the hotel isn't good. Full signal but limited bandwidth. Over 3 weeks I would often have trouble downloading emails etc but had to manage with whatsapp. Forget anything like netflix of youtube HD! Some days there was a signal but no connectivity at all and other times just no signal. I would often sit outside by reception drinking tea in the evening where the wifi was occasionally better. Take a book! or rely on local purchased 3G sim card. If you have time on your hands, of which you will if staying here, the hotel provides a magazine to read in the room. Sadly my magazine was from January 2014... this sums up the hotel's approach to looking after its guests and maintenance. Outside the rooms there are sofa in the hallway for groups of people, I didn't understand why these were needed however other local hotel guests eat at these sofas with food brought from outside. I discovered this on the weekend when groups of guests would be outside my front door long into the night making noise until at least 2am so ask for a room that's quiet. In the morning food debris and trash would be immediately outside my door. On a few occasions there were power cuts and the hotel runs on emergency power, during this time the ac will be running but will not provide cooling and your room will get warm quite quickly. If you are wanting a quick overnight stay in NKC then you can manage at this hotel but consider reviewing others first...

Good room, clean and well located.

In shock with the hotel prices in Nouakchott! But found a place that, still expensive for what you get, was the most affordable in the city, 50 Euros/night. The service and attention were great, friendliness and location, a short walk from the main drag. Right around the corner found me a cafe (Chicago) with better WiFi than in the hotel, and great coffee and fast food.

Cold Air-conditioning, Comfortable Beds. Expensive for what you get. Terrible Restaurant Food and Breakfast

We paid 60 euros for a standard room. This is discounted as it was booked by our Tour Operator, the normal charge is 80 euros. Aircon was cold though there's no button to control the temperature so sometimes it actually gets too cold. There is hot shower but pressure is too weak and flush works once then you have to wait for 20 minutes or so. Wifi does not work at all in the rooms and super slow in the common areas where it's supposed to work. Room is quite small but sufficient. It is centrally located close to pharmacies, supermarkets, and a few restaurants. We ate dinner at the restaurant assuming they would be of better quality but we were very disappointed. We ordered a marinated chicken with Basmati rice and what we got was nothing close. It was a grilled chicken probably from the day before, that was recooked over some very oily sauce. The waiter asked us what we want with it which confused us because it said specifically in the menu it came with Basmati rice. Anyway, it came with rice (but not Basmati). We also saw he left the bread on the counter out in the open for at least 30 minutes before serving to us and some flies were all around it. There's a lot of flies in Mauritania but we had hoped this hotel would have better hygiene standards. Breakfast was basic (rolls, croissant, some mixed fruits and yogurt) and again we saw another waiter touching the bread to remove some crumbs or something. Again touching food is very normal in Mauritania, you'd be shocked how they pass along the bread, with lots of people touching it before it gets to you or how it gets left out in the open in the shops with hundreds of flies around it, but again, we thought hotel standards would be different. Lastly, the receptionist was unfortunately not receptive at all. When we ask questions, he would stare and mumble that we have to ask again. I'm sure he's a very nice guy and could be because of the language barrier as we don't speak French but unfortunately, because of this, we didn't feel quite welcome and comfortable. We had to cut our stay short and left after 1 night because of all the factors mentioned. We found a full apartment (4x the size) with kitchen and all so we can finally cook our own food, with washing machine, TV with English channels, fast wifi, etc... for 100 euros for 3 nights just a few hundred meters away from this hotel and even more we can say that this hotel is not worth it. Again, we did not book this hotel, it was booked by our tour operator and based on the reviews here, it's likely they have partnerships with tour operators in NKC and one of the reasons they get booked.
