Bed bugs! & No customer serviceThis place (the grounds) are beautiful & tranquil... Pool area is very nice, although we didn't use it. Rooms are individually owned, so it depends on what you get. Our unit 18C had some Chinese decor, & not to our taste... but otherwise worked fine. This room ended up being a nightmare later on (story to come!). Garden view Lanai was peaceful. Our problem started with customer service. I called in a couple days before to ask if my brother who was coming from Japan could check in early, since his flight gets there hours before ours. Lady said theres no early check in... but he is welcome to walk around the pool area. She sounded very annoyed, and asked if she could call me back since she was really busy checking other guests in. I said it's ok, thanks anyway... & we ended the conversation. That was my first impression of Halii Kai. By the time my brother got there, the woman on the phone was there... and she seemed nice in person. We got our room & all was well... until on our last full day of our vacay. My brother casually told us during breakfast that there's little baby roaches in his room (master bedroom). He said they were on his bed & he killed one. I said that doesn't sound right... So I checked his bed after ... Low & behold, a small bug on his pillow. I put the sucker in a bag & called the lady. She had a maintenance guy come by who looked at the bug and confirmed it's a bedbug! I called the lady back & she was apologetic but seemed irritated with me asking for updates every 30 minutes. We were stuck in our room. We couldn't go snorkeling like we planned that morning. She proceeded to tell me if I keep calling her, she can't talk to the pest control guy. I wanted to know if she knew a store where we can buy bed bug spray. No help. So I did my own research, & found a store in Waikoloa to buy tea tree oil. Sprayed our luggage and backpacks with it, & washed and dried all our clothes. That was our day. We were starving by a little past noon, and no calls. They get mad when we call, but won't call us to assure us of anything. They promised us another room and all we did was wait for hours. After stopping by the office, they said we can sleep in another room, take a shower & bring one pair of clothes in a trashbag, but have to leave our stuff back at the other room. We had to go back in forth between the 2 places and we had to re-wash and re-spray everything in the morning before leaving. It was a nightmare, & to top it off.. they told me the general manager would call me the next day. Not one call. No discount for our troubles, & no sorry. Nothing. My mom paid good money for this birthday trip for my brother & I. This was kind of a once in a lifetime trip. We still had a great time in Hawai'i but this dampened our experience a bit. Driving around... Mauna Lani is very nice. Close to a beautiful beach & I read that there's a sense of aloha there, so maybe go there if it's a special occasion!

The location on the Big Island cant be beat and all the staff at front check in and Ocean Club are so genuinely nice and helpful!! Our condo was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed!! We booked through Waikoloa Vacation Rentals and Rob and staff were fantastic to work with!! We are booked with them again next year and plan on returning yearly!!!! We already miss the beautiful sunsets, whale watching and wonderful food and drinks from the Ocean Club!!! Aloha! Oceanfront & golf course view - 9A condoWe stayed here on a Staycation for the first time. It was very quiet, felt like we were there alone. No one stayed in our complex throughout our stay. The roads were quite isolated, that it was quite tranquil. The rooms are comfortable and open. Kitchen area spacious. It was just a wonderful stay during the closure of our islands. Very peaceful to wake up too.

Excellent serviceWaikoloa is the northern Kona part of the big island. Its one of the driest areas on the island with beautiful beaches - thus all big resorts are located in this area. Halii kai is situated in the heart of Waikoloa, adjacent to the Hilton and Marriott. We had an ocean-facing room with lovely views from the balcony. The room was clean, big, with fully equipped kitchen. Parking was adjacent to our room. Both shopping centers were only a few minutes' drive. If you plan to stay for a longer duration in a condo setting, I would highly recommend this place.

Not allowed to use reusable water bottles at the poolEnvironmentally unfriendly! Pretty disappointing that they wont let you use your own reusable water bottle at the pool, and insist that you get water in a plastic cup from the bar! There are not enough chairs at the pool to accommodate all the guests. Lastly, they are still stating that children under 12 can not use the hot tub due to Covid- why if they are in their with their family?
