Lovely Japanese experience with very caring and helpful hosts

We had the best time staying at Hakuba Ski-kan! The hosts were so so so friendly and helpful. Always trying to offer help on what to do, where to go, how to get there. On my friend's birthday, he was given a sake bottle present - such a thoughtful gesture. Just one of many kind and funny moments shared with our hosts. The rooms were just what we wanted- traditional Japanese. The bathroom situation was fine (it was shared), but once we got used to the whole Onsen experience, we had no urge to go back to traditional bathroom. The location of Hakuba ski-kan was perfect. An area of town that had a nice quaint village feel to it. But still right near the bus terminal and easy walk to lots of restaurants and the ski fields if you wanted to. If I come back to Hakuba, I will come back to Hakuba Ski-Kan! Thank you! Samuel, Ross, Rob

Great value central accomodation with excellent hosts

Stayed with 3 adults and 4 children (11, 7, 4, 1) in January 2019 for a family trip for 8 nights. Traditional japanese rooms which were clean, decent size and cozy. Central location so quiet easy to get to the mountain on a number of shuttles. What made the trip were the hosts who went out of their way to help our chaotic little group, organising restaurants, tracking down lost property, helping with planning, giving us lifts to the supermarket, dinner, slopes when we couldn't get the children organised in time, and being very understanding and accomodatiing of our wild australian kids. There is a dining room which was well equiped which we used for breakfast and dinner a few times, decent onsen for post skiing, and is located right in town so easy to walk around. Great spot and would go back in a heart beat.

    Felt like home

The Hakuba Ski Kan is centrally located, just a 2 min walk from the main bus station, steps away from the free shuttle buses to the ski slopes, and 3 min walk to the nearest convenient store. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room, with tatami floors and futon beds. The futons were very comfortable and the blankets very warm and cozy. What made our stay really special were the owners - they went out of their way to make us feel at home, picked us up on arrival and dropped us off at the station on departure. Takako helped with dinner recommendations and reservations ( all her suggestions were spot on). She even dressed all 5 of us in kimonos and samurai outfits, we had a blast. The bathrooms are shared, but clean and the onsen is a perfect way to end the day after skiing on the slopes. The discount to the ski gear shop across the street is very good, even though the selection is worn and limited. Ski-kan has a room where you can store and dry all gear overnight. Overall - a great stay, and I highly recommend a visit. We would come back in a heartbeat, and can't wait till our next ski trip to Japan. Be aware that even thought the inn used to serve food, that is no longer the case. Getting breakfast outside was probably the most inconvenient part, but totally doable - the convenience store is a short walk away and open 24hrs/day.

The Best Hospitality You'll Find in Hakuba

Hakuba Ski-kan is an absolute gem of a place to stay. Takako and her family were incredibly hospitable, the location is closely located to the ski slopes and restaurants, and the accommodation itself is very charming and culturally immersive. If you want a true Japanese experience in the heart of Hakuba, I highly recommend Hakuba Ski-kan. Thank you Takako, Kuni and the rest of the staff!

Amazing Authentic Japanese Experiance - Our 3rd trip back here.

The owner's family feels like our own. As others have said the Inn is close to the middle of downtown yet feels rustic quiet and peaceful. The on-site onsen is fantastic. But really we can't say enough about the personal touches. Takako is my wife's friend on facebook and she gives us welcome amenities, and gifts when we leave. She always wants to make sure we have a great experiance and we always have. Her son picked us up at the train station and because we are not alpine skiers he provided transport to the snow harp ( X-country area) and back and also a ride over to Iwatake for snowshoeing. Takako was able to secure us reservations at a nearby restaurant for dinner on a very busy weeked and we felt like royalty at that restaurant. All in All I can't say enough about Ski-kan and it's hospitality. Thank you for another great stay!
