Indoor private Onsen with excellent customer service!

We stayed 2 nights in the modern twin room with an in-room private onsen, The room was very spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was good quality featuring mainly traditional Japanese and fushion style with local ingredients and fresh seafood. There is little western style food here, but hey you come here to eat the local cuisine anyways! We also opted for the full course dinner and breakfast in the onsen's Hakodate Ginza-ken restaurant for our final day and this was wonderful. Compliments to chef Murakami who prepared a stunning 11 course dinner featuring locally prepared fusion cuisine and server Ms. Kida who kept us smiling throughout each course. The onsen is close to the local trolleys that will take you pretty much anywhere. Mainly young cheerful staff working in this new onsen hotel. Would definitely recommend this as a place to stay in Hakodate and especially if you are a non-smoker as this is a non-smoking facility - unlike many other older onsen inns.

Well-managed high class hotel with retro ambience from the 20s, great dinner/breakfast buffet

In this relatively large hotel (56 guestrooms) you feel treated invididually except for the large buffet dining room (for breakfast and/or dinner). There are several hot spring spa together with the adjacent hotel, offering you a variety of bathing ambience. Food is freshly prepared and excellent. I had a sushi kaiseki dinner, which was a kind of art. Hotel staff are attentive and cordial. All in all, highly recommendable in Yunokawa-Onsen.

    Great service

We arrived by taxi and there was already a staff waiting to greet us at the entrance. She helped us with our luggage (very heavy). Once we settled into the lobby, we were offered hot tea and sweets. After checking in, a female staff pushed our luggage up to our guest room. She knew little to no English, but was very courteous throughout. She told us that our key card can have access to another public bath in the adjacent building, which was cool. After that, we left the room and went for dinner. When we came back, we noticed a staff setup a tatami in the living room for us. Since we have two adults and one child, they set up an extra bed. So kind! The room was huge. It is unlike any other Japanese hotel. I would call this a modern ryokan. Our room came with a private onsen bath, it was so convenient to enjoy a night and morning onsen. It also came with a view. We have two beds and one tatami. The toilet was separate from the traditional bath. There was a double sink with huge mirrors. I love how they have bath towel racks. Also, there was a cute dining area and a sectional sofa in the living room. There was also an option to use the public bath on the first floor. We tried it and nobody was there. We had the bath all to ourselves! For this room, we got free buffet breakfast. The food was alright, lots of selection. It filled us up. We checked out after one night of stay. The staff helped us call a taxi. Overall, it was a nice experience to stay. It was a memorable stay with my family. Thank you!

    Suprisingly good

Approach via taxi from ekimae leaves you thinking "what have I done" but it is a very nice property with easy access to the tram to get to city center and harbor side. Our room had ocean view and in room onsen and very spacious traditional area. The breakfast buffet was excellent! This really turned out to be an excellent choice.
