Nice hotel, location OKWe stayed here as a family in 2012. The hotel amenities were good but at times service was a little strained, might have been language difficulties. Restaurant was pricey. Western menu not so good but OK if you are adventurous and try the local cuisine. Great thunderstorm Display over the indoor pool on Saturday night for entertainment, complete surprise and kids (and adults) loved it. Location not to attractive off main road in urban area just outside city center, but good as base for traveling to and from attractions. Taxis continually service the hotel, again, you have to be adventurous as the local taxi drivers could enter the Grand Prix .

Too much complicated hassleWhen you arrive at this hotel you automatically set your expectations high; a grand design, large building, great architecture, well dressed staff, and interesting water features at reception. Unfortunately once you have checked in that's where the troubles start (and only finish once you have checked out). My main problem with this hotel is the complete lack of organisation and understanding of procedures by the staff. On our first morning we inquired about how to buy lunch, drinks etc., and if we could get these charged to our room. We were informed that we could, but despite this whenever we tried to buy meals, items in the spa, buffet lunch in the swimming pool area, drinks, we were told by the people serving us that we COULDN'T charge them to the room, and instead had to pay cash on the spot (funnily enough I didn't see any locals handing over money at all). When we complained to the management, and asked if we could actually charge things to our room account they replied, "yeah, well I think so, maybe". Enough said. Why things were this complicated or chaotic I do not know, but it sure made our visit very frustrating. Maybe it's due to the fact the place is a combined hotel-spa, but this just emphasises the complicated nature of this set-up and the fact that members of staff don't know what they're doing. The hotel has a lot of stunning facilities that are well designed, and the grand feature being the spa built around the main swimming pool. However, we were forced to buy swimming caps to cover our hair. Normally I wouldn't be bothered by this, but since SMOKING was actually allowed IN the swimming pool area, around children, and in the lunch buffet area this penny-wise pound-foolish attitude really did irk me. We were some of the very few non-Chinese citizens who stayed here, and coupled with points from the above two paragraphs, I got an undercurrent of RACISM towards ourselves, from both staff and other visitors, as we were definitely treated differently (in a negative manner). I also didn't appreciate my 2 year-old son being constantly photographed, again, by both members of staff and other visitors. Language is also an issue - every other hotel I have stayed in a member of staff has been able to converse in a European language, be it French, English, Italian, German, Spanish etc. At this hotel the staff speak Chinese/Mandarin, and Chinese/Mandarin only. Which makes communicating simple things extremely difficult. And beggars belief as I think this place markets itself as an INTERNATIONAL hotel. However, with regards to previous reviews saying that the hotel was "too Chinese", or the food was "too oriental" - what do you expect?! The food in itself was quite good actually, although the Thai Beef Salad was VERY spicy. The breakfast buffet is great and had a vast range (traditional English, bakery, sushi), although you have to get up early to get a doughnut!!! On the Friday night a live concert was put on in the middle of the swimming pool area. Good dancing and singing acts that finish early (~21:00) so it doesn't disturb hotel guests. Another positive is that the rooms themselves were very clean and in good condition. Overall a very poor experience. Once I had initially got to my room, and went out onto the balcony to check out the indoor pool I could hardly contain myself with excitement. Unfortunately as the week wore on I could only describe my time here as being comparable to being in a prison camp, with the only enjoyable bits of the holiday being AWAY from the hotel. There really isn't anything to do in the area unless you take a journey downtown; the hotel is surrounded by a car park, free-way, and derelict waste ground. Avoid this place.

Good hotel near exhibition hallOn business trip to participate expo in Kunming. Great location, just only 10 minutes to the hall. Big Hotel with full facilities, full in room amenities, breakfast was quite good. But the staffs (mostly) could not speak English, so make sure you have all information in hand and let them see it if you may have anything to ask for
