  A very enjoyable meal

  We called at Gwesty Minffordd whilst travelling hoping for a nice meal. We hadn't pre-booked, but we certainly weren't disappointed. The proprietor, Gordon, was very welcoming and helpful. From the varied menu, I chose salmon and my husband chose an interesting pasta dish. We were both delighted with our food and will certainly visit again.

  Suprise birthday weekend.

  Very nice hotel with plenty of character. Stopped for 2 nights in February. Warm comfortable room and spotless bathroom with good shower. Had breakfast and evening meal here. Both were very good. Full breakfast lasted you all day. An excellent area for walking. On the doorstep of Cadair Idris which we climbed. About 6 hour return hike. Owner,Roy, was very knowledgeable on the area and kept us informed of weather conditions before we went on our hike. There are no televisions in the rooms, little or no mobile phone signal and limited wi fi. I and some other members of our family group thought this was great!! People talking to each other!! Would definitely stop here again.

  Ideal base for Cadair Idris

  I wanted an inexpensive overnight to follow a days walking in Cadair Idris in south Snowdonia. Not much was available within an easy drive of the mountain but I found the Minffordd Hotel had a single room at a good rate, booked, and only then realised the hotel is literally 200 yards from the Dol Idris car park that is the start of the Minffordd Path up Cadair Idris. So price and location perfect for anyone wanting to walk the mountain. I didnt expect the comfort - the bed was very comfortable and I slept well, although the room was compact and a bit warm for my liking. A good shower is one of my musts for a hotel room and this ticked that box too. The food at dinner and breakfast was excellent - at dinner I had lamb cutlets (delicious) and a sticky toffee pudding after - one of my all time favourites - even better than the lamb (extra custard too). The bar had a good selection of bottled Welsh (Orme Brewery) ales, again a big tick for me. Our host Gordon was great, looking after the small number of guests allowed in these restricted times very well. Ill definitely be back to walk the superb Cadair Idris again and the Gwesty Minffordd will be first choice, even if more expensive hotels are available.

  Well fed and watered.

  If you are thinking of staying here you are probably more interested in location than creature comforts. The location is fantastic, in the hills, at the foot of Cadar Idris, a mile for Talyllyn Lake. The hotel is dated but it's clean and comfortable. The evening menu was a bit dated but the steak with the chasseur sauce was fab and the lemon tart was to die for. Breakfast was excellent. I stayed one night because of the location. Good choice.

  Return visits

  We've been back to Gwesty Minffordd twice now on family outings since the long lockdown and what a pleasure it has been. On both occasions we were warmly welcomed and the food was delicious! We hope to go again later this year. Social distance markings are clear and the hand sanitiser is strategically placed at the entrance, so guests can be confident that their safety is taken seriously in this establishment.
