  I would recommend it

  On first sight you get the totally wrong impression about this hotel but there again it is Beijing & lots of things are different. From the street there is only a small sign to indicate that this is a hotel. It doesn't really get better until you see your bedroom. Ignore the old carpets & the rooms are quite good. The bathrooms very good. I had to change rooms during my stay (someone had requested 1st room after my 1st night) so I can vouch for two different rooms. Location is really good if you want to experience a real Beijing. Safe to walk anywhere & don't miss out on The Reef bar next door.

  Filthy Hotel, Not as Advertised

  The rugs in the hotel were filthy with stains and cigarette burns, having not seen a vacum in ages. After our first night there our bed was not properly made, the quilt was thrown across the bed in a wrinkled mess. Our bed was up against a wall so one had to crawl over the other if they wanted to get out of bed. The sink had several cracks. The picture on the screen in the lobby does not correctly depict the rooms. Stain chipping off furniture. Rooms were beat up. Our room did not have a window. Spoke with other travelers and one person's room was no larger than a closet with a tiny bed, for an adult. Hallway rugs were filthy as well. Checked out and went to another hotel. Mostly young people were staying here. Partying. Would definitely not recommend this hotel if one expects cleanliness, quiet and any space in a room.

  frommers was wronrdirty, run down hotel in a nice hutong street.

  the room i had was nondescrpt w/ single bed of questionable cleanliness shoved in the corner of the room (this room was never in one of their pictures)& a carpet that hasn't seen a vacuum for weeks.I don't know how frommercould say it's a"lovely three-star hotel is smack in the middle of one of old Beijing's gentrifying neighborhoods. It was in a hutong street that the taxi driver wouldn't drive to, so i ended hoofing it to the hotel w/c was hard to find due to no signs. Plus I paid $40 more than what i booked w/ Agonda 'coz the clerk who spoke limited english could not find my reservation despite giving her my confirmation #. And of course she coludn't contact Agonda.

  noisy, no english speaking staff, small room.

  if you like to hear, at 11pm someone working in a noisy way close to your windows, this is the place. none to listen your complains because they don't speak a single word of english. forget to fix time and menu of your breakfast: it's a waste of time. it's not possible to live in the middle of a capital town without the chance of being understood.

  Home on the Hutong

  The Beijing Guxiang 20 Club Hotel is an ideal perch from which to reconnoiter Beijing. Located on a hutong, a traditional Beijing alleyway, it puts you right in the thick of things in the heart of a real Beijing neighborhood, far from the skyscrapers. The absence of English spoken is a bit of a challenge, but it's surmountable with a little good will. My wife and I very much looked forward to returning to this cozy nook every evening after a day of wandering. Rooms are comfortable, not luxurious. Breakfast is traditional Chinese.
