charming, homey feelArrived at 6 pm, reception area was closed but a sign sent us to the restaurant, where the staff was ready and helpful to get us checked in. No help with our luggage, so we were busy hauling our luggage upstairs in the snow with a baby for a while. Room was heated up nicely, there were lots of different ways to light the room. The bathroom was spacious, including bathtub, make up mirror and a towel heater. The room itself was spacious also, even with the extra crib there was tons of room. There was a large closet and a couple of chests of drawers, so a longer duration of stay can be comfortable here. We also had a small table and two comfy chairs, as well as a regular chair. It was very snowy out, so we didn't use the balcony our room had. Breakfast was included in our room rate, and it had some eggs and bacon and sausage, as well as rolls, bread, a good choice of cold cuts, cheese, jams and jellys, as well as some cereal. You had a nice choice of teas and coffee was served as you entered the room. A baby chair was provided for us, and left at our table which remained reserved for us. At night there was a buffet that offered a variety of dishes, some local ones as well, and also bread and cold cuts and cheese, as well as yummy desserts. Staff was always friendly and helpful. A number of old ladies are coming in for meals as well, they are living on the premises in a kind of home. They can be chatty, but we found that amusing. Now the things I didn't like: the room underneath our room was probably not heated, and we ended up taking the baby in our bed, because he got too cold in the crib, just a couple of inches above the floor. But we still paid 10 Euros a night for it. Also it was a fairly cheap bed, but we think that is standard. Also, the historic building was fairly recently renovated, but had large cracks in walls and ceiling. There were no drafts or anything, but it didn't look too good. One of the nightlights had a broken nightlight when we got there. We stood it on the floor and unplugged it, as it was late. Room was being made up next morning while we were at breakfast, but the light bulb not changed. Check out was simple, but there is just no help with luggage available. All in all, we had a good stay, it was clean, and comfortable. This will be our next choice in town again.

Gorgeous! My boyfriend and I stayed here on a Friday night and wished we could have stayed longer. Staff were polite and friendly and a buffet style breakfast was included in the price. The room was huugggee and the bed really comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking the lovely pond outside and the rooms have beams across the ceiling. My only complaint is that the restaurant closed at 9 which was a little early so we didnt eat there (we ate in La Luna which is a lovely Italien in town about a 10 min walk from the hotel) but the menu did look nice for the hotel restaurant. I would definately recommend anyone to stay here. Lovely hotel!

No Air Conditioning During Major HeatwaveWe were in Blankenburg, my mother-in-law's hometown, to see relatives my husband hadn't seen since he was a child. We loved this hotel--it was cute and seemed very German-like to me. Our room was cute and very spacious. The breakfast buffet was a good, typically German breakfast. The grounds were well kept and attractive. So, what was my problem? We were there during a nasty heatwave and there was no air conditioning. That was just plain miserable. I'm not a princess or anything, but geez, who enjoys stewing in his or her own juices? Taking a shower was the only cure for the nasty feeling of being icky sweaty. If they would just add air-conditioning, I would love, love, love this place. Hauling our stuff up stairs wasn't fun, but it could be done. My husband's 89-year-old aunt was even able to haul her suitcase up the staircase.

Good hotel as a base for exploring north rim of Harz Mountains, friendly, spacious room, and a good restaurant. This hotel on the north edge of the Harz Mountains was a very good base for visiting these hills and a number of historic towns in the area like Goslar, Halberstadt, Gernrode and Quedlinburg. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious, good bathroom. Good WIFI. And the hotel restaurant was very good. Breakfast was simple but with good espresso coffee (which however they charged for). And dinner on a number of nights was very good. Thoughtful well prepared dishes. A negative was the smoking. Our room overlooked the terrace outside the dining room and people smoked here, forcing us inside and to shut door / windows.
