  Very average hotel in a nice location

  For the price we paid for a room mid-week in February we expected a lot more. The location is great and the staff was nice but the hotel itself was very average and the rooms small and in need of renovation. I also did not appreciate paying a 'resort fee' when the few amenities they had (fire pit areas, igloo dining) were not available during our stay. I don't think we would stay here again.

  Showfish Igloo Pop Up

  My friends and I went here for the igloo pop up. First, I would like to advise you to dress warm. The website says they are heated and they are, with a space heater. It wasn't dreadfully cold on the upper body but I couldn't feel my feet. Drinks & appetizers to start are a must to keep warm. I had the claim chowder and it was a generous portion that I wasn't expecting, well worth the money. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail to share, these were the biggest most delicious shrimp! The selection of wine was extensive which I appreciated. The mixed drink selection was very limited, my friends had the "candy land" which they described as sweet and yummy. For main courses I was torn between the braised beef and the filet mignon, our waiter was Srdan who was amazing and helped me decide. I settled on the braised beef and it was so tender, I would highly recommend. My friends had the burger with fries x2 & the statler chicken with the biggest asparagus I have ever seen! We also had a side of Mac and cheese to share for the table, I was not a fan and it ended up being too much food. Lastly, we split dessert- tiramisu cheesecake and cookie dough mousse which were both superb! Overall and it was an awesome and something fun to do in the dead of winter. We will be back in the summer to explore Scarpetta at Srdan's request and enjoy Newports outdoor dining.

  Wonderful Staff Here

  First impressions: Check in was very pleasant and the view from our room was phenomenal upon arrival during sunset. We happened to run into an issue with the room we were placed in, which required speaking to the front desk. The response from the team at the hotel, the manager David in particular, was extremely satisfactory and while it wouldve been ideal to have no issue at all, it was handled very well. The hotel staff is what made this place special and turned our stay around. It was a wonderful relaxing weekend away for birthday celebrations, with an incredible dinner at Showfish (voted best calamari weve ever tried- and its our go to appetizer everywhere we go!) We hope to come back sometime soon!

  Great experience Igloo lunch

  We had lunch in an igloo at Gurneys on Sunday . From the time we pulled up in the car to the time we left all the staff we encountered were wonderful and really made us feel welcome! The igloo was decorated very nicely inside and even had faux fur blankets available as part of the decor and maybe in case they were needed for extra warmth . It was only 30 degrees outside but inside we were really nice and comfortable,so no need for blankets that day. Our server was so pleasant ,she took great care of us . We never felt rushed and took our time . The food was awesome , we had a calamari app , a lobster roll , a burger and a tuna poke , we finished it off with cheesecake , everything with great presentation and portion sizes and with lots of flavors. It really was a really nice experience and a great meal . I hope to get to go back there and do it again !!

  Igloo Pop up disaster

  Went to the restaurant for my daughter's birthday. The waitress was great and the food good although a little pricey. My complaint is with the igloo itself. Our electricity inside went out after about 15 minutes and couldn't be restored for about a half hour. The first few minutes, they kept apologizing but finally after our fingers & toes were numb, I asked if we could sit inside. They agreed Eventually, electricity came back on. I had ordered a glass of champagne and she asked if I wanted a refill, to which I said no, I'm driving. She came by a short time later and refilled my glass anyway. The waitress said "don't worry, we'll take care of you ". When the bill came, she comped the glass of champagne i didn't ask for and a dessert we split between 3 of us. I think they could have done a little better. I called the manager the next day, but never returned my call.
