Ignore pre-2012 reviews......It's great now!First things first, I will clarify which hotel this review is for, as there are three hotels from the same group which appear to be sharing reviews on Trip Advisor. This review is for Gunes House in Alanya (pronounced Gunesh by the locals) which is 90 seconds walk from the beach, with a Migros supermarket between the hotel & the beach It is not a review for the Gunes Sun time hotel which is across the road, or for the Gunes Beach hotel which is a five minutes walk away, on the beach We booked a late deal in early August through Thompson & then checked reviews and were horrified with accounts of rude guests, rude staff, inedible food, dirty rooms, no sun beds available after 6.00am etc! The photos available of the hotel online certainly looked nice enough & so we convinced ourselves that it couldnt be that bad and it certainly wasnt .it was a fantastic holiday, in a really nice quiet hotel. We arrived at 5.00am & were met by an English speaking receptionist who had us in our rooms within 10 minutes. We are a family of five & so my son & I had one room & my wife & two Daughters were in the room next door. Both rooms were spacious enough for three single beds (we only had two in our room) & had a bathroom with shower cubical & a balcony with a small table and two chairs. The rooms had a long dressing table with mirror & plenty of drawers & wardrobe space. The room had a fridge which was ideal for supplies of drinking water & also had air con included in the price & a safe which could be hired for two Euros per day. There was also a TV which received one UK channel (BBC World News Service) The room was spotlessly clean on arrival & throughout our stay, as the maid came daily. The deal we had booked was bed & breakfast & breakfast was served from 8.00am. It was an extension of the traditional Turkish breakfast with mountains of fresh bread, honey, tomato, boiled eggs, cucumber, cheese, sausage, cornflakes & numerous dried fruits. As we were only there for a week, we ate breakfast promptly & were round the pool by 8.30am, to maximize the sun time! There were 48 sun beds & I never saw every one taken. There were maybe two or three with towels reserving them when we got down to the pool each morning but never any more than this. Talk of not being able to get a sun beds on other reviews is nonsense from our experience. Most of the guests were either Danish or Finish with a couple of other British families & I didnt encounter any rudeness from guests or staff whatsoever. One staff member told us that up to last year the hotel had sold all inclusive packages predominantly to the Russian market but from 2012, Russian travel agents now sold packages to the sister hotel the Gunes Sun time hotel which is across the street. There is a pool side bar selling drinks, snacks & ice creams, food can be ordered & is then brought to your sun bed by the bar staff. We had never been to Alanya before & didnt do a huge amount of exploring due to just being there for one week but a 90 second walk from the hotel past Migros, brings you onto the main road which runs parallel to the beach. Turning right takes you towards the centre of Alanya & the Ataturk statue, turning left there is also a large stretch of shops & restaurants. We ate out each night & had great meals at EV restaurant (past the Ataturk Statue) & Why Not which was just a few minutes walk, after turning left on the beach road. It is a leisurely 10 minute walk into the resort centre which has huge bazaar type shopping areas on both sides of the main road. The genuine fakes that Turkey is famous for are plentiful with hand bags/clothing/Converse & Vans footwear/Watches etc in every other shop. The weather as expected in August was 40-50 degrees each day & we were getting 2.72 YTL to the £, the best rate that weve ever had in six visits to Turkey. Our advice would be to ignore the pre 2012 reviews, Gunes house is a great place for a holiday & we wouldnt hesitate to return again.

Decent hotel, fabulous locationIf you are looking for a great location with a basic but very clean room then this hotel is really quite reasonable. The staff there were very helpful and friendly and there is a lovely English speaking lady who can help you if don't understand Turkish. They put lots of effort in ensuring that their guests are happy and put on nights such as live music nights and Turkish nights! I also had a Turkish bath which is something they can sort out for you at a price and i really recommend this at the beginning of your holiday for relaxation and you'll feel really clean! Breakfast is a typical Turkish breakfast and has a basic mixture of cheeses, spreads, cereal, juice etc. It isn't an amazing breakfast but it is edible and quite nice!! We also drank at the bar and it was very enjoyable! The pool is a decent size and is a nice option if you want a break from the beach. We stayed for a week and had a very pleasant experience. Alanya is an absolutely lovely area of Antalya, there are lots of tours you can go on and we got the bus up to the castle and had a wonderful day exploring. There are lots of shopping opportunities and wonderful places to eat! Of course the weather is great alot of the time and the beach is a nice beach and with this hotel you can also get free deck chairs on their own private area of the beach- just remember to ask for your ticket! The best selling point of this hotel is the location, you are 2 minutes away from a supermarket, a couple of minutes away from shops, restaurants and bars, also a few minutes away from the beach and the bus stop. With this hotel you really are central to everything in Alanya which enabled us to explore more of this lovely area because everything was so easy to get to! This hotel is basic but a decent service and i would definately recommend it if you are looking for a base hotel to sleep in at night!

DON'T GO THEREThey played techno/Dance music All Day at the pool area. It was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think - we had to flee to the beach...and also No opportunity for an afternoon nap if needed. VERY bad food, VERY bad service and the employees can't speak more than a very few words of english. I asked Them a couple of times to turn the Music Down or maybe even turn it off - But it Didn't Help anything at all. This place is equivalent to Sunny Beach, and I really don't understand why they present it as a family hotel at some travel agencies. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!! :-( - only plus is that the Beach is close by.. Bad experience for sure.

Gunes House Hotel AlanyaWe got a very good deal and used this as a base to explore the whole of southern turkey and cappodocia with a hire car. We had a room with a sea and castle view which was very decent and clean. (the cleaners were very sweet and friendly). The hotel is set a little back from the main seafront road and about 100m from the sea. Guests get access to the 'beach club' of the Gunes Beach Hotel and this is well worth using. Everywhere in Alanya is within walking distance. Staff were very helpful and friendly- we were the only English people staying the rest of the guest were scandanavian. This is a reasonably basic (very clean and well maintained) hotel but great location and excellent value for money.

Brilliant holiday except for call to prayers but to be expected! We had a great fortnight here at this hotel, it was our second trip to Turkey but first to Alanya, a very interesting place to see. Yes you have to barter for the best prices but it was done over tea & with smiles, when my husband wanted to get some shoes he even received a pair of socks! Our trip was during the Icelandic ash cloud period which actually caused us only a little delay due to visiting for 2 weeks unfortunately some of the Danish people we met went home by coach 5 days worth of travel at least. The hotel was very good, beds superb & food very nice.
