  Great Hotel

  Hotel rooms were above average. very helpful front desk personnel, good location, short walk to train station, cathederal, and Gutenberg museum. Restaurant Was very good.

  Not worth it

  We booked this hotel as a convenient and reasonable place to stay before we flew out of Frankfurt the next day. It was close enough to the train station to be able to walk, but not so close that we thought we would be bothered by noise. The entire hotel smelled of smoke including our supposedly non-smoking room. At first glance we thought the room would be decent enough, however the floors had not been vacuumed in quite sometime and was filthy. The sheets did not feel clean and there were several bugs in the room. The hotel staff was very rude to my husband at checkout as there was a misunderstanding about the payment. The positives about the hotel were the location and the breakfast, but nothing is more important than a clean room in my opinion. I would not stay at this hotel again.

  A reasonable budget hotel

  This is a budget-level hotel, but my room is modern, clean, and complete. There is a work-desk and chair, a surprisingly large closet compared to many other budget rooms, a large suitcase shelf, a television, and a comfortable single bed. There is no safe or coffee-maker, but at this price I wouldnt expect them; and there is no air-conditioning, only an electric fan. Also missing from my room was soap, but this was quickly and politely rectified by the reception clerk. My room, at the back of the hotel with a view of the backs of other buildings, is quiet, with no street noise perceptible. The wifi (included in the room price) is fast and problem-free. Breakfast, including scrambled eggs and sausages, (5) was unremarkable and average in quality, but is a pretty good deal for the price. One negative point, which previous reviewers have remarked upon, is the smell of cigarette smoke, which seeped into my room on a couple of occasions. After reading earlier reviews, I had booked the Hotel Austria with some trepidation, but mid-priced hotels in the area were all booked out for the night I wanted, and I didnt want a high-priced hotel. However, except for the cigarette smoke, I found it quite acceptable for the price.

  Brand-new hotel nearby Mainz Train station

  This a fully refurbished hotel, before called Austria, but now Guest House Mainz. All furnitures, paint, coats and finishes are brand new. It looks very good. People are extremely polite and nice to all my questions and inquiries about the area, shops, services, etc. The room is also brand new. Not so large but it has a fully equipped kitchen and a decent refrigerator to store all what you need during the week. Carpets are brand new as well and although the street is noisy, window have double glass and it is very silent during the evening. Breakfast is simple but the necessary to begin the day full of energy. I truly recommend this hotel (just three block walk to the station and 7 to 8 minutes walk to Mainz down town.

  Well worth the price...

  This is a small hotel, something one would call a "hotel-pension". Staffing is minimal, but accommodations are great, I thought. The price could not be beat... about 20% below any other hotel. The bed room was much larger than what you would expect from a higher rated hotel, and so was the bathroom. No minibar (but who cares...). Breakfast (included) was average. It is very close to the main station, about less than a five-minutes walk. Most public transportation centers there. Mainz's old town is at less than a 15-minutes walk away. This is really unbeatable. Your room key is also the key to the entrance because reception is not staffed around the clock. If you are on a budget and want a very comfortable accommodation, that's the way to go..
