Easy living - Beppu styleThis charming guest house is driven by a very friendly staff, who will always tro to make the best for you and your stay. Although the farely old building has its flaws here and there, you feel as welcome as in your own house. You will by staying here, have free access to at least three different onsen in the nearby area of the guest house, of which one is very close, and nice! There is also a possibility to get bikes while your here. An extremely cheap place, where we met a lot of lovely people. I would come back here anytime!

Comfortable and quaint...A guest house was a new experience for our family; but traveling last minute during the school holidays to a popular resort town left us with few choices, so we accepted the challenge as an adventure...and are so glad that we did! I booked online, and my husband kept in touch with the the staff through email and Line. Originally reserving two rooms for our family of six, we were quite pleased when the staff offered an alternative 20 jo room that gave us plenty of room for the kiddos to move around. That the room was also situated next to the stairs and above the kitchen, with no other guest room next to or below, was a bonus as it meant the kids weren't disturbing others with their tumbling and games in our room. The room was also next to the shower room and the men's restroom (which was also available for the kids to use. My kids were thrilled with the bookcase in our room stocked with manga, and happily spent much of their downtime curled up on mountains of futon reading to their hearts content. A TV and game console were also provided (but happily ignored in favor of the books). The room a/c worked perfectly, as did the wifi. The room was truly non-smoking, with no stale left over stench to contend with. The guest house is older, but in excellent shape and well cared for. Exceptionally clean, it also provided a kitchen stocked with utensils, dishes, and cookware as well as microwave, rice cooker, stove, fridge & freezer, and toaster ovens. This suited us better than our usual hotel accommodations that include restaurants, as we have to take along baby food as well as prepare allergen friendly meals for one of the kids. The guest house also offers a washing machine and laundry racks to hang clothes dry free of charge, which is more useful than a nightly turn-down service when travelling with kids! Parking was available nearby for an additional fee. The staff at Guest House Danran were very kind and helpful, quick to help carry a bag or amuse an inquisitive child in both Japanese and English. There was a variety of guests from several other countries during our 3 night stay, including Poland, France, and the States. The neighborhood is close to many conveniences without being in a noisy area and free access to three nearby onsen is a nice bonus. Futons and pillows provided were adequate and provided a decent night's sleep for everyone. The only drawbacks we had were minimal. It would have been nice to have more than one location for electrical outlets available, but as we brought a multi-port usb charger with us we didn't have any real problem. Aside from that, the automatic motion light in the hallway was sometimes a nuisance for the kids when trying to sleep, as our room had only frosted glass sliding doors and no other way to block the light. A quick stop at Daiso for a sleeping mask took care of that, though. We'll definitely stay again when in the area, and now have the incentive to try other guest houses elsewhere in hopes that they like every up to our initial experience at Guest House Danran.

We didn't stay till the end of timeFirst it was a surprise that there was no kitchen and no utensils. Kitchen was under renovation but there was no mention of it before arrival. Nor of the extra fees (linen, towels, air conditioner). Speech was easily heard from other rooms and everyones footsteps could be felt. Our days would end listening to snoring of the guy in next room and "start" with thunder when other people walking would wake you up hours ahead. Worst was when there were kids jumping around and that noise was heard in the whole house. No piece ad quiet. Sheets were clean, but had few holes in them. And you need to make your own bed. The matress was very hard to sleep on. Almost painful. I didn't get proper sleep there. People were constantly smoking in the outside terrace and the smoke got inside. I got an astma when I first entered the house. All the doors were very noisy and the locks were easy to break. There was a constant worry that some one would just use little force and take our stuff

Guest House Danran, 23-24 Jun'1823-24 June, 2018. Our memorable trip to Beppu would not be complete if we did not describe our lovely experience in Guest House Danran. We had booked the place on booking.com: a place that was a 5-minute walk from the Beppu Station (which would be a pivotal point in our going around, with respect to both trains and buses). The check-in time is 04:00pm-08:00pm. It was around 04:00pm that I got a call on my contact number, politely enquiring as to when we would check-in. We were requested to come in before the check-in time closed. We made it well in time. The property is extremely neat and clean, and the staff, courteous and helpful. We were assigned room 205 on the second floor: a Japanese-style large room with tatami mats, and three roll-on beds (3-piece foldable pads, a mattress, bed-sheets, blankets, blanket covers, and pillows: 3 sets of each). There were windows along one-and-a-half sides of the room (and that was very nice!), and a large translucent sliding door as an entrance to the room. There was a large TV set on the room, which we did not patronise. A bookshelf has a large selection of Japanese Manga comics, and a large number of books. The men's washroom was on the first and second floors, and ladies' room was on the third. The large common area on the first floor features a kitchen with a sink, cooking stoves, kettles, pots and pans, condiments, and complementary tea of various types, and coffee of two types. We were also offered complementary admission to three onsens (Japanese-style baths), and a sand bath onsen as well, all a short walk from the place. There is a large number of restaurants in the vicinity. The first floor features an outside sitting area (which is patronised by smokers). The entrance features a place for keeping (and taking) umbrellas, and shoes. Slippers are supposed to be used on the property. This place cost us JPY 8400 for the one night we were there. And yes, there was free WiFi. Overall, a wonderful experience.
