Simple but great location and price

The Home Inn hotel chain is pretty basic but has everything you need and this location for the east side of Beijing is great. However, it might be tricky if you don't speak Chinese as there's not much English around. But for such a central location the price is excellent. Broadband cable in every room, good efficient aircon in August, everything you need food and shops-wise within 10 minutes tops. There's even a yoga studio ten minutes away and a pool in the Sci Tech club nearby!

    Not going back there

I didn't like this hotel... at all. This was the first time I have stayed in a Chinese hotel chain, so maybe my expectations were a bit different from the current customer. We arrived to the hotel around 10pm, and the taxi driver was only able to find the place after 3 calls to the hotel. We have driven in front of it before, but really hard to see it. At the check in, we did our best to communicate in mandarin, with the basic words we know, but no one there seemed to try to do the same towards us ( that is no English at all). It took almost one hour to check in, as the hotel receptionist was photocopying all of our passports, every single page and looking at all stamps we had there. Not only once, but they did it twice... We had to pay a deposit ahead, which was more expensive than the whole three nights we were staying there. Btw, they didn't accept international card. The room... very small! Really small, there was minimal space to walk around the bed, no place to put the luggage on, and no mini bar. The second day we were there, when we arrived to the hotel, the bath curtains were gone... no explanation, no reason why... just gone. They eventually reappeared the next day. Every time we went out and came back to the hotel they requested our passports and would check them again and take a new photocopy. For the checkout, I asked for an invoice (remember that the deposit was very high, right?) as I wanted to make sure what has been charged. And they were really against to do it so, and started talking to other Chinese guests who were also checking out. I had to wait 30 minutes and request my "fapiao" around 10 times before getting it. Anyhow, I got the deposit back and maybe that is a common thing in China, but I would not go back and for sure would stick to the international chains. They can be more expensive but can save you a lot of stress!
