  Lovely villa with lots of space

  We were only here for one night but we really enjoyed it. Tucked away off of the road, the villa is very spacious and accommodated our group of nine with no problem at all. The design of the villa with its combination of outdoor and indoor spaces is lovely, especially the indoor fish pond. The staff were great and they prepared a beautiful breakfast for us. While we didnt eat dinner there, there were some great menu options available. All of the rooms were spotlessly clean and the villa itself was decorated very tastefully. Only a few minutes walk away from the lake, Gruhaya was perfectly positioned and I would definitely recommend it to others.

  Perfect quiet location minutes from Kandy lake

  The villa is very charming , lovely antique furniture and local art work. It was extremely clean and staff welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the double with balcony and enjoyed the outside space watching the egrets and fruit bats fly overhead in the early evening. Alcohol isnt sold on site but can be bought at the Food City in town and put in the fridge. Tea and coffee are available anytime from the kitchen, we didnt understand this on arrival and were surprised to find a kettle but no supples in the room. We ate dinner 2 nights which was great and braved the garden cafe our first night, food was tasty and the place was mobbed. We also ate at Helgas Folly which is really weird and a must do, fab food. Breakfast was ok, fruit, jams and toast, very rusk like, or omelette which was the better option. On arrival we asked if we could pay by credit card and were told we could only to find that actually they want cash, we paid in euros. Tucutcs are available about 25m from the villa or by asking the staff to phone they arrive at the front door. We used the hotel owned transport of a saloon car, Mercedes people mover and a classic Land Rover, the latter to drive us to our next hotel near elkudwa over narrow winding roads with lots of potholes, quite exciting. Prices ranged from 5500 to 8000 rupees. We would return and recommend to others.

  Very good guesthouse

  Very clean and comfortable upmarket guesthouse, beautiful architecture, courteous, efficient and helpful staff. Nice room with excellent private balcony which we used morning and evening. Well-located near the lake, although be ready for the dawn chorus of Tuk-Tuk horns from 6am.

  Didn't live up to good reviews

  I booked this place based on positive reviews. The location is great and the reception area is lovely. The rooms are a real disappointment. Due to our arrangements we stayed twice, in two different rooms. First room was right by the kitchen so we were woken up at 6.30 by staff chatting and clattering around. The lighting in the room was awful, the room was cramped with no bedside table or place to put anything. Second time we were in 'family room' Again, awful lighting and scruffy bathroom- cracked tiles and hole in the door (which didn't actually shut) with a bit of paper sellotaped over it. We had dinner here one night - quite tasty but not generous portions at all!! Also although they said they take credit cards the manager insisted on local currency cash, which was really annoying, as the second time we stayed another person was on duty and accepted our card with no problem. Overall I was disappointed with Gruhaya.

  Lovely private villa

  We really enjoyed this former private villa that is now a small hotel with only four rooms which makes it very personal. Building and interior is very beautiful and staff is really nice and helpful. The location in Kandy is quite good in a quiet area and walking distance to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
