    The service needs to improve

    We stayed 5 nights at the end of July. We were attending a wedding in a castle 5 minutes drive away and this seemed the obvious place to stay, in fact the bride and groom and dozens of other guests mainly form UK or Germany chose to do the same, so we filled the hotel. You would think that management and staff would go out of their way to be helpful. Quite the opposite, they made us all feel very unwelcome, particularly when we wanted to spend money on their food and wine. On the last night all of us got in our cars and drove to the nearest pizzeria,I saw no need to spend any more money there. Cleanliness was poor, dust on the bedside cabinet was there when we arrived, and there when we left. After 3 nights we thought we would at least have a change of bed linen!! When my wife inquired at reception, she was told it was too late to do today, so she told the receptionist to organise the linen, and my wife changed the bed!! We thought we knew what to expect from this backward region of Europe, but the lazy incompetant staff surpassed themselves.

    Disappointing

    We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights to attend a friends wedding happening nearby. There are no many options in the area, so this hotel is probably a fairly decent option compared to the others. The room was OK but nothing special, a bit small and quite dark. There was a leak on the hallway on our floor, we reported this to reception and they said thsi was due to the air-con, but there was no intention to fix it. Breakfast was farily average, decent coffee (but you wouldn't expect any less in Italy!), and the selection was bigger than most places we've stayed at in Italy, yet not good quality ingredients. The greatest disappointment was the restaurant, the service was extremely slow! They took 20 minutes to pick up our drinks order and 45 mins in total to get our bottle of wine! It was over an hour before our food was served, and it wasn't worth the wait. There are much better places to eat in the area, so stay away from the hotel restaurant.

    Food for thought

    We stayed here for 1 week.We came to a friends wedding in August 2012,there were many guest in the Hotel staying for the wedding.The hotel staff were lovely,but the people who ran the restraurant mainly a woman were dreadfull.I have'nt met such a sour puss woman in charge of food in my life.She could have made a small fortune from the wedding crowd,especially at lunch times,but she just did'nt want to give any service at all.It was a pity because it was a lovely area.

    Grillo - a bright diamond in Amendolara!

    Before going to Amendolara I was spending some time searching for a hotel...Since this town is small and calm I found out that there were not that many places where to stay... Thus I chose Grillo Hotel and I have to say that it was such a good choice ! I mean my room was very cute with a big hydromassage bath, all newly furnished, with a spectacular view of calm Jonio sea. What is more, this hotel has an amazing terace on the roof with a swimming pool, hence I was relaxing there many days in a row... The hotel also provided nice breakfast with authentic italian prosciutos, bread and other stuff... I also booked lunch and dinner there and I could say it was a great experience, all the dishes were simple but of good quality and the prices were not too high...I would definitely reccomend this place for someone who wants calm and high quality holidays:)

    Needs attention from manager.

    Grillo Hotel Our room was only 75 and thats all it was worth. The hotel is modern and has potential but they do need to spruce things up a lot. Towels hang touching the bidet which is just plain gross; a bunch of cables hangs from the TV, the pillow cases are smaller than the pillows; our room could have done with a good dusting;; the air conditioning was switched off because they felt it was not hot enough so our room was hot and stuffy; no slippers or robes; a half dozen assorted crappy wire and plastic hangers in the closet, no glasses for toothbrushes overnight, no kleenex in the kleenex holder, everything just looks dirty like it has not been cleaned for a very long time, dead plants on the pots on the balconies. The owner needs to pay attention. We were glad we were only spending one night. Its a pity because it does have the potential to be quite nice.
