  Awful Room, Shabby & stail putrid cigarette smell, made me feel sick.. & had to sleep with the window open..

  The room I was given was sufficient for a single room.... However the cigarette dirty smell was discusting.. Ive stayed in many hotels travelling for my work... & even when I've got a good rate for my room... Ive always been given a good room.... The Great Barr hotel gave me their worst room... That will not encourage their customers to return.. Plus the room was cold.. The heating was barely on & there was mould around the windows... I stayed at the hallmark hotel, Hagley Rd... The night before, for £31 & my room was fabulous.. & clean!!!!!

  DISGUSTING AND APPALLING

  Please avoid this hotel at all costs! I arrived last night (6 Aug) at 3am - we had a 2 room booking. Upon arrival we were told by a rude and arrogant gentleman who calls himself Danny (I later learned it wasn't his real name) that Booking.com cancelled our reservation. Interesting, I didn't recall cancelling my booking, nor did I receive any email cancellation confirmation. We rang Booking.com right away and were told Booking.com would never cancel a reservation on their own. It must have been cancelled by the hotel. He then admitted that he cancelled it because we didnt show up by 12am. This hotel has a 24 hour front desk to greet guest when they arrive at any time of the day or night. So how come the denied us our room and were left to sleep outdoors with a new born baby? We even clearly booked in to arrive around 1am, so coming at 3 am due to unknown road closures and diversions with someone there at the desk all night shouldnt be a problem. And instead of trying to help the fellow was downright rude, nasty and arrogant not even bothering EVEN ONCE to make eye contact, all the while busy either tidying the desk or looking at the computer screen. Then after realising he was coming up with non realistic excuses and I told him he would have to pay for another hotel to spend the night he started yelling at which point we just left the hotel. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere for a hotel

  Fantastic stay

  I recently came and stayed before lockdown with my family,the hotel is great people are so polite a lady at the desk think her name is helen is lovely and kind polite she helped us gave us extra bedding told us breakfast time etc all i say keep it up, the room was excellent we will be back the owner should be proud of their staff members

  Family funeral

  Welcoming staff observing Covid measures initally. The room we were shown to was cool to say the least, the buffet was very disappointing no separate food for vegetarians, and staff did not ask if anyone had special requirements, food was already plated and covered in cling film, meat, fish and vegetarian options all on the same plate and of poor quality, cake was served also, which was stale and again of poor quality, no alternatives offered . I have been to many events at this hotel including several funerals over the years but have never been so disappointed. certainly would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I know these are difficult times but the service received today was very poor. If you cannot offer a full service you should not accept bookings, exploiting people .

  Appalling buffet at funeral

  We attended a funeral at the hotel today. Initially we were pleased with the Covid measures in place when we arrived but things went down hill quickly. The seating was not compliant with social distancing, despite being moved from one room into two! Had the rooms remained as booked this would have been sufficient. The rooms were changed the day before at a significant cost which is unfair, and very distressing. If you make a change to an accepted booking you should cover the costs. Poor practice and smacks of profiteering from others suffering. This has cost you future business. The buffet was pre plated as you would expect but the quality was appalling. Meat and none meat in the same plate, no provisions for vegetarians. Sandwiches were not filled, the garnish was lacking the cake was stale, the portions very small. Coffee was too strong and undrinkable. You have made an already awful day even worse.
