Enjoyable skiing holidayGrandes Murailles is a cosy and romantic hotel in the centre of Valtournenche. The staff was friendly and helpful, but somewhat reserved compared to many hosts I've had. Didn't bother me at all as everything went really smoothly. The hotel offers transportation to the closest lift station where you can also have your skis storaged. Our room was outside the main building, but it was very comfortable and clean. The only minus was a weak wifi signal which basically left us offline. The signal in the main building was better. The breakfast was good, but after a couple of days one would like some change in the selection. Different bread, fresh vegetables maybe? The afternoon tea (complimentary) was excellent after a hard day at the piste. I would recommend Grandes Murailles to couples and families. You'll make more of your trip if you have a car as the town is pretty small and quiet and public transportation in the area is quite poor. Skiing in the region is absolutely wonderful.

Beautiful and charming with great service and delicious breakfastWe stayed in this hotel for 2 nights after hiking in the Alta Via. It was a wonderful place to relax and rest along the hike. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, breakfast is delicious with fresh fruit, bread and cheese, cakes and more. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they helped with every request we had, like laundry or washing our dirty dishes from the hike. The Albrego has a mini-spa at the basement with optional massage (for a reasonable price) and it was a special treat for our aching muscles after hiking. In short - highly recommended!!!

great hotel at a great price off-seasonMiddle of the summer we just turned up in Valtournenche and found this gem of a hotel. Room was great with a small balcony and fantastic views of the mountains. Service and breakfast were also excellent. Location and parking perfect - on main road in town on the way to Cervinia. Best of all was the price - a bargain at 70 per night !!!

Very average and not so great value for moneyHaving stayed up in Cervinia many times this was the first time we stayed down in Valtournenche, believing we'd get better value for money. Whilst the rates are lower than hotels in Cervinia, the ovrall experience fell short of offering good value for money. On the plus side the location is perfect, and I expect even more so in the summer months. It's onlt draw back from a location point of view is not being able to load and unload directly at the hotel. Most times this is probably not a problem but in heavy heavy snow conditions not so easy. I also saw the hotel help people with their luggage etc so they seem to have worked a plan around it. Another plus was breakfast. It was plentiful and fresh, and eggs of any kind available on request. The coffee however left a little to be desired. The 'americano' in an urn was actually filter coffee, and it seemed to me that the cappuccino was made with said filter coffee. The bathroom was spacious, bright, and new, but the hot water in the shower was rather temperamental especially in the evenings. The bedroom itself, most of what you pay your B&B rate for was a diappointment. I understand from other reviews that there are different rates for different rooms. I am reviewing room 7. It was big enough for a B&B room, although for a week in a hotel 14 sqm is rather small. The bed itself was big and comfortable for most (too hard for me but that's personal preference, my husband slept well) but strangely no change of bed linen in a week's stay. The pillows were hard and flat but I guess that's a personal preference too. There were three things in the room which would make me not stay again. The first is the lighting. There were two old fashioned bedside lamps throwing a very small amount of pooled light. There were two other lamps, one table lamp and one floor lamp but as these were next to each other there may as well have only been one. It wasn't possible to move either of them as there are no spare sockets in the room. The wardrobe or 'cupboard' was at the opposite side of the room and as such meant it was impossible to see in it even during the day never mind after sunset. I had to use a camera torch to find clothes. The second thing was sockets. Most people these days travel with a number of items that require charging. Th only place one could do this was on the tiny bedside cabinet where there was one socket, on the floor, or to unnplug the TV or lamp and move things around on the dresser. For me any hotel in 2018 should cater for this. The last big issue was sound. Not from the road as this is to be expected from all of the photos being positioned on a corner, but from within the hotel. The walls are so very thin that I could hear everything next door, from plugging in a charger to somebody to taking ashower or using the bathroom. Also every morning and every evening parents from upstairs or downstairs would come and wake up or collect their children across the corridor and on each occasion they may well have been knocking on our door and calling for us. They weren't particular loud or insensitive it is simply a symptom of such poor construction. I didn't dicsuss these items with the hotel as they didn't ask how my stay was, not even on check out. Had they then I would have discussed the three key points above.

Lovely and clean hotelThis is a lovely and clean hotel only a few steps from the bus station that takes you straight to the ski area or to Breuil-Cervinia. TV is very tiny, so tiny you hardly can see it - so we didn't watch ;-) You can ski down to Valtournenche at sun set, which for me made it even the better experience than staying in Cervinia and having to ski down with cold and shade.
