  Nice view ,good hotel

  I visited this old hotel for good positin,style and good reviews. I was satisfied especially, during my stay I partcipete for a movie realization with some slovak actors. Movie which will be on cinema on 2020.The hotel is good and I recommend it

  5 star prices , 3 star standard

  I always start with reading comments before I make a reservation. If the reviews have many negative things in common I choose not to book . This time I did ignore the rewievs with many negative things in common because all the other hotels in the area were full. My mistake. Grand hotel stary smokovec aspires to be 4 star, however its staff and some of the facilities are not meeting the standard. A couple of examples: -outdated interiors -double bed are single beds pushed together, -outdated bathroom interior -flickering light in the bathroom -mold in the bathroom -no complemintary water in the room - unhelpful moody staff and rude reception staff ,especially the young woman and man working daytime on the 27th of December -hairballs by the pool - the spa pricelist available in the room doesnt match with the pricelist in the spa. On top of this I booked a massage and it took place In a cold fitnessroom with a massagebed. Since the room had a wall of glas,one could hear the noise outside. Not so relaxing in other words. I will not come back nor will I recommend this hotel to anyone.There are far better hotels for this price.

  Excellent

  This hotel is a fairytale! We arrived early just after 12/ lunchtime and sweet receptionist offered an early check in which is usually at 14.00. We were so pleased and grateful! Our suit was so spacious and beautifully clean! Hallway, little loo, living room, bedroom and big bathroom with jacuzzi! Food was high end, absolutely delicious and buffet is nicely spread. Huge choice and our taste buds abnormally satisfied. Only one little minus was the pool. Very cold for me and specially for my one year old daughter. Also spa opening is a bit late (15:00) no chance of having a swim in the morning. But we believe there is a good reason for it. Not to worry, overall everything is excellent and we will be definitely coming back again soon. Thank you all for unforgettable experience. Wilcox family

  Historic hotel freshly renovated

  Stayed during new year's holiday with my family in a beautiful suite and I can recommend the place especially for families with children. Room was excellent (it better be for more than 300 eur/night with half board) and spotless. Only drawbacks was the lack of a proper shower (large Jacuzzi instead) and the relatively low wifi signal, especially in the studio. Positive notes: - buffet breakfast was excellent and buffet dinner more than acceptable - spa excellent for children, much less if you're an adult looking for peace and relax. this is obvious in the pool, much less in the sauna area. - very practical shuttle for the sky resort since you're not really supposed to use your car once you find a parking (see the negatives). Negative notes: - parking is an absolute catastrophe with much less parking lots than required and no staff available for any kind of help to find a place to park or even a spot to just unload your car. No valet service. Once you find a place you better forget about using your car until you leave. - staff is mostly young and inexperienced and I find they lack training and proper supervision. While this is an understandable "work in progress" in the restaurants, I find it not acceptable at the reception desk: personnel there was ranging from unhelpful to outright rude. All in all it was a beautiful experience but I recommend the management to invest time and money in staff training and selection. Especially after all the expenses to refurbish this splendid hotel, it is worth having a staff on the same level.

  A good holiday

  On arrival we went to the main restaurant which had a buffet which was good apart from mashed potatoes with leeks was stone cold. The beds were comfortable and breakfast was just about standard for a 4* hotel. My wife decided to have a bath. The bath seemed to be very small and was difficult to get out of because there are tiles along a part of it. There was no shower cubicle, just one above the bath. I was amazed to find there were 2 TVs - one extra large - the list of channels was impressive. The Wi-Fi was good. However, having tried a coffee I put most into the sink - very low quality. Milk should be UHT rather than a powder. My wife used the wellness centre and was pleased with the swimming pool but did find the jacuzzi difficult to get in/out of, particularly with wet feet. For room service I ordered tomato soup with a roll and fish and chips. When delivered there was not a roll with the soup. The soup was absolutely delicious but I was well over halfway down it before the roll came. The temperature of the fish & chips was disappointing. Cleaners,receptionists and waiters were good. We were there for 7 days without snow but there was nothing really done to the drive to make it easier for guests. On our final day we wanted the room for 2 extra hours from 10am. On Monday there are plenty of rooms free after people have returned from the weekend we felt it was quite petty to be asked to pay 10 euros when our original pay was above 1000 euros plus services ordered.
