Misleading and disappointingGrand Mercure Dalian, aspires to being an Accor Group Standard 5 Star Hotel and Mercure Teda Dalian a 4 Star. For either unit to achieve equivalent of International 3 star standard, these Accor units MUST improve some. To achieve International 4 Star standard, there is a considerable way to go. To achieve International 5 star, there is a long long way to go and things must change drastically and dramatically. In its current form, Grand Mercure Dalian, will barely pass as a CHINESE 4 Diamond standard nothing more. I have travelled and stayed in numerous cities, towns and places around China over the past 8 years, and Grand Mercure Dalian represents a Chinese hotel and not the standards of a Foreign Brand such as the Accor Group Mercure Brand Considering the above, now read the Trip Advisor Reviews. Look at the Nationalities of the reviewers. If the reviewers are Westerner, largely reviews are average to poor. If Asian, reviews are good to excellent. This should tell its own story, of what guest expectations are and what guests are accustomed to. I would Strongly recommend that Accor Group send INCOGNITO inspectors to evaluate these two units, first for their compliance and achieving ACCOR Group Standards for International 4 Starts or 5 Stars. These business units can only impact and give a seriously negative impression to western guests who stay here, of what ACCOR Group stands for internationally when masquerading as 4 star and 5 Star. In China, a number of International brands, who command low level ratings internationally, easily achieve International 5 Star level in China. As examples Howard Johnson, Ramada, typically mid level internationally.

This is only hostel standard. Very confusing entrance and Reception. The Reception staff was unprofessional. This is my first time to visit Dalian and Mercure Teda Hotel is my first place to stay. I am a member of Accor Hotel Group and have been heard of the brand "Mercure" before. I was thinking and expecting to take this opportunity to experience. I joined a tourist group in Hong Kong to visit Dalian. Due to the serious flight delay, we arrived at Dalian Airport at 1:30 in the mid-night while the flight was expected to arrive at 21:00 the day before. Our whole group were exhausted. When we arrived at the hotel, we did see the name of "Grand Mercure Teda ". However, the place where we stayed was not "Grand Mercure Teda ". First of all, I was not sure what happened to the ID sensor at the Reception. The staff there said only my domestic ID card was degaussed, while other group members's were all available. I thought this was ridiculous, because my ID card was a newly applied one. Before visiting Dalian, I used the same card to buy air tickets, pass the security check, check in hotels and so on. None of any processes went wrong. I also prevent my ID card from heat or light carefully. What was more ridiculous, the staff said, "In this case, I am afraid you have to go to the police station to register." During my past 30+ years living in China, I have never heard that you have to go to the police station when your ID card cannot be detected at a hotel Reception!!! Our guide was also shocked by the reply. She asked him, "Hey bro, I think you just have to scan the ID card? And now is 2 am! We come here as a group. Don't you think our guest do not need a rest?" The staff insisted I should go to the police station. And then I asked him if I could use other certificates such as Military ID card or drive license? The staff refused. And I asked if he accepted "Hong Kong and Macau Entry and Exit Card". He said yes. Based on this reply, I could tell you guys very responsibly that this Reception staff was very unprofessional. I am a resident from Mainland China. When I am in mainland, I need to use my domestic ID card for sure! (Passport, Hong Kong and Macau Entry and Exit Card, Taiwan Entry and Exit Card are all certificates when you travel abroad.) For example, when a US resident comes to China, he certainly should use his US passport, right? If he uses his US ID card in China, do you think it is appropriate? And according to the national regulations, a resident can use his/her Military ID card or driver licence under many circumstances (because the resident ID number is printed on the driver licence too.) Even the hotel does not accept all these certificates, we came here as a group and have a local guide. Do you really think I would escape or whatever at 2am?! The staff totally does not know how to service a client and take the feeling of a client as nothing. Actually I was thinking if I should show him my Accor membership card at the time. If I walked in to check in, I had already scolded him. The guide was trying hard to help me, and all of us were very exhausted. Considering these factors, I controlled my temper in the end. I strongly advise "Grand Mercure Teda Hotel" to train your Reception staff again and again until he knows how to serve a client. There was no identified words but only numbers shown on the room card to tell us if we stayed in "Grand Mercure Teda" or "Mercure Teda". Many group members followed the signs and took the elevator upstairs. We found the keys failed to open the doors. And then our group came down again to turn to our guide, with luggage. Let me emphasize it again: it was 2am at that time! Afterwards we found the hotel we booked to stay was "Mercure Teda Hotel" but not "Grand Mercure Teda Hotel", even they share the same entrance and Reception!!! It is a shame that a brand hotel confuses the guests like this. It sounds like it treats you to come in first and then tells you the place where you sleep is not the one you see outside. What a shame! The hotel management team should really send your staff to take the trainings in the hotels in southern China or Guangdong Province, and learn hard from them to see how they work. I was very disappointed with the room when I entered it and could not believe it belongs to Accor Group. Does it need to be old like this even the brand's market positioning is different? The entire room is very old and like a hostel.Even an ordinary business hotel at 100-200 RMB in Guangdong Province is better than it. I think the hotel at least should whitewash the walls and switch the light to some brighter ones to make your guests feel warm and welcomed. And the clothes hangers were very strange too. In a current century, what kind of people will use these clothes hangers by opening the clips first and then closing it? This is super inconvenient, okay? I had never seen such clothes hangers before. OMG! Thank God we stayed here only one night (actually it was only 3 hours) and could leave the next morning. The breakfast was good. However, it was not supplied by "Mercure Teda Hotel" but by "Grand Mercure Teda Hotel". I don't recommend this hotel at all.

My favourite hotel in DalianThis is one of my favourite Accors hotels in Dalian. Staying here a few times. I found the front office is very helpful, lead by Alice Lian, the front office manger is excellent and must be commended. Alice always carry a beautiful smile and offer any assistance possible to make my stay comfortable and feel like home. The hotel location is quite convenient as it closes to all popular tourist spots. Room is decent at a very reasonable rate. Good for business conference and seminars. Cheers Dr Amen Lee
