Grand catastropheArriving at the hotel for a two nights stay with wife and kid after a long day travelling, at arrival we found a room with only two towels, two bottles of water, one soap, barely toilet paper and no warm water. The hall in wich the room was located had one bulb out of every 3 functioning, not to mention that the hotel has no elevators. Staff in the restaurant refused to have drinks put on the room and even came knocking the door at 11:00pm because they made a mistake and this could not wait the following morning to be rectified. When asking to swith on the heater for warm water, the reception at first did not act at all and after a second call somebody came to check as they seem not to believe us, told us that he would do something...and did not. Only the following day, after getting really angry was the problem solved. However the day after only steaming hot water came out of the shower now as the cold water seemed to have been cut off. Did I mention that at time to pay the bill, the cashier made a "mistake" that would have seen us pay too much. This could only be corrected through the intervention of a Manager who, we must say was helpful. Of course the hotel has positives: it's location in Kampala, not all staff is rude, the rooms are big and it has an ample parking. It could deserve 3 and with some renovations and better trained staff 4 stars. However today, if the choice was there we would give it half a star.

Friendly staffMe and my 2 teenager daughter had a great week in a familyroom at the hotel. The rooms where large with TV, wifi and air condition. One bed had mosquito net, but We didnt notice any mosquitos or other insects. The breakfast and food in restaurant was Ok. All the staff was so lovely and friendly. We felt welcome and Secure at all times. We would really love to stay here if we Get back to Kampala!

Restaurant is getting betterI last reviewed this place back in 2013 when we had a problem with the restaurant food. We decided to call in here again (largely due to the foreign exchange businesses under the hotel which are the best in Kampala and always give us a better rate than that shown on the board outside). Sitting at a table on the balcony is a pleasant way to watch life go by in Kampala. I opted for the humble vegetable samosas this time and I have to say they were undoubtedly the best I've eaten in a long, long time. All washed down with not one but two Nile Specials, it can't be beaten. So, three of us ate lunch and had drinks all for less than 100k UGX (That's £20 or $27). I can't comment on the residential part of the hotel but it's not the sort of place we would stay anyway.

Visited Grand Imperial hotel for a mealAfter 48 years I decided to visit the hotel for a meal to make a change, I wished I had not bothered. There is live music everyday only if you like Congolese music, There is not a big choice on the menu so I opted to have a cheese burger, coleslaw and chips. The burger was nice and tasty but the chips were very cold. I mentioned this to the waitress and she was going to speak to the chef, His reply was he must do better with no offer of replacement. I waited for some different music and it was the same all night payed my bill and left very disappointed as I had high hopes from past experience.
