    A wonderful place to relax

This hotel has a certain amount of history to it - ex hunting lodge of the Austrian emperor, in WWII, the headquarters for the Germans in the area and now back to being a luxury spa mountain hotel. It is a lovely mix of restored glamour, high end spa and old fashioned terme hotel. The public area spaces are huge & quiet with acres of carpet. Interesting historical prints and old photographs on the walls make for a peaceful and established feel. The rooms are clean, classic and well maintained. We booked & travelled independently and next time (because there will be a next time) we will book a grade of room up as it was a little small for two adults. In saying that, we were on the front of the hotel with a great little balcony - small table and two small chairs - which was enough to see the sun come up and watch the stars at night. Levico is a very beautiful mountain town in the Trentino area. Known for its spa waters, hill walking, glorious local produce, stunning scenery and a beautiful small but very cold! Lake. If you like making your own itinerary, filling your day walking and relaxing in superb Italian countryside this is the town for you. If you expect others to provide entertainment or are looking for typical tourist experiences, then this is not the place for you. The hotel has a lovely outdoor pool - fresh water from the mountain so usually unheated, an indoor pool as part of the spa and stunning gardens. The gardens were once part of a large park and today the town park is still there offering all residents & visitors to Levico a stunning, large well established woodland outdoor space. However, the hotel gardens are only separated from the park by some hedges, so make use of the robes provided when you want to have a swim or sit in the sun outside. The food is fantastic. I really mean fantastic. Fresh ingredients, local flavours, modern classical cuisine with innovative techniques and presentation. However, dont think for a second that this is some foodie pretentious hotel, it really isnt, not at all. We stayed dinner, bed and breakfast. Breakfast was the widest selection of bread, cake, cold meats, cheese, fruit, cereal, hot options, homemade jams and honey that I have seen in a long time. Dinner was usually 5 sometimes 6 courses. While each course was not large or overpowering, the combination of all the courses meant you never, never left the table wanting more. The staff were friendly, welcoming and fluent in many languages. No stuffy service but their pride in the hotel, its facilities, location and food shone through. There is a dress code for dinner (which I personally have no issue with); no shorts, vests or general sports or sunbathing wear. When we stayed, late summer 2018, the weather was wonderful and warm. There is a charming bar and occasionally they have music on. My personal tastes do not run to covers of middle of the road pop so not something I enjoyed but it was only one night. The village of Levico is less that 3 minutes walk down hill but thankfully it does not have any music / loud bars. If you love peace and quiet, long walks through beautiful forrests, lazy days spent at the lakeside, alpine sunshine and stunning food every night, then book now! Levico is on a great railway network and you can be in Venice in under 2 hours ( no changes required) or go in the other direction and head to Trento in less that 40 mins for the medieval university small city with historic architecture, markets, shops and museums. Try and make a trip to Trento for the Friday market, its worth it for clothes, flowers, meat, cheese, shoes, woollen jumpers and just about anything else you can think of. There seemed to be a lot of guests that were returning, I can understand why - we have already booked to go back for 2 weeks this summer.

    Romantic Getaway

I took my wife here for a romantic weekend. It was the perfect trip. The room and amenities were perfect. We walked downtown for the festival and utilized the spa. The meals were exquisite. All the staff we encountered spoke English and were extremely accommodating. I would stay here again if in Italy.

    Fairytale hotel

From the drive up to the hotel and all the surrounding gardens with the beautiful rose gardens, this hotel reminded me of Beauty and the beast castle ! I believe it was once a hunting lodge for an Austrian prince ? Luxurious old style decor, very atmospheric. Fantastic views of the mountains and the picturesque town below. Only disappointment was the outdoor pool being closed for repair but we used the spa and indoor pool, which also had a wonderful view from the large windows. A very charming hotel, all beauty and no beast .

    Winning bummer

I would love to put in the title of this review "Luxurious legend in fabulous location". Supreme layout and surroundings. It has all necessary facilities to satisfy the most exquisite taste of a traveler and spa fan. However, it became the greatest disappointment I've ever experienced in wonderful and hospitable Italy. Sure, I can understand that when the general ventilation and air conditioning system is broken in such a building, it might be difficult and costly to repair. But solution with the cheap portable air conditioner can hardly be acceptable due to its absolute inefficiency and 65db noise produced. When it is switched off poor sound isolation still does not allow to have a sleep. I can understand that the hotel is aged, and it might be difficult to keep it in good condition, however, the four star hotel could change at least towels - the rags we had in the room were an absolute shame! The same shame as the 50 years old hairdryer in the bathroom. You wish to prompt a suggestion "why not to ask the front desk to help, change, etc."? The staff is a disaster. Useless and grim. I must acknowledge that despite age and condition the hotel is very clean. The rest of the service is almost missing. Receptionists and waiters do not look into the eyes and speak through clenched teeth. There was noone to led the couple with a baby and accompanying elderly man to their room or to help with their luggage on arrival. The breakfast was mediocre, therefore we did not even try to improve our impression on the hotel with a dinner. Rare hotel can boast own garden. That's very cool indeed. However, it also requires extensive care, and this is unfortunately not the case in Grand Imperial.

    Lovely place

Hotel is located in a good position on a hill , surround of a large park and many old trees. Spacious comfortable, quite room, equipped clean bathroom . I suggest to lit better the bathroom, nevertheless two windows its a little bit difficult to see well in the mirror over the sink. I had dinner included in the room rate. Food was exquisite and staff very kind. Breakfast was good and abundant. It was relaxing and pleasant to swim in the indoor swimming pools warm water. Free internal garage, very appreciate . I recommend this hotel and I will return in the future.
