    Lovely place

Lovely hotel , staff very friendly and helpful , close to the beach but even though empty very expensive to hire beds / umbrellas , maybe need to drop prices at the end of the season! Any how the hotel has a lovely pool very clean , however the only criticism is there is no handrail to help in or out of the pool and a few older clientele did struggle so maybe a thought in the future. Food excellent a buffet starter followed by three courses usually a choice of four in each course. Breakfast again plenty of choice . The town its self is very expensive a shoppers delight but nothing much else but great location to visit Lucca , Pisa, Florence and my favourite the Cinque Terra. Great stay enjoyed every minute .

    Almost 5 star delightful hotel

We are just leaving after a wonderful week at this hotel. We are regular visitors to this coast so know the area well and the beach set up which is completely private. The hotel is opposite the beach and the location near the town is perfect. The bus for tours picks up outside and it is very convenient. The pool area is delightful and every member of staff we encountered has been five star. Rooms are typical Italian and housekeeping is of a very high standard. Very good bathroom. There is a lovely bar area to sit during the day or evening and an outside terrace. The restaurant is ok for breakfast with adequate choices and you have the same table throughout your stay. At other hotels in this area we have been very lucky to have a breakfast which included pancakes or omelettes of freshly cooked eggs. That wouldve made the breakfast here even better. We have been a little disappointed with the evening meal not because of the selection which is good particularly the buffet hors doeuvres rather the quality and taste of the produce. There seems to be very little actually baked food we never once had a lasagna or cannelloni or Italian basics. To be honest the only disappointment with this stay has been that the food has been uninspiring and a little disappointing. Our holiday was excellent value and to eat out in this area is very very expensive. We do not want haute cuisine just something that is more tasty. So this is a very positive review about an expertly managed hotel. We have received better service in this little hotel in Tuscany from every member of staff than in world-class five-star hotels. It is a very homely environment here and very welcoming. The reception team are knowledgeable and very lovely. Finally its worth pointing out that in spite of this hotel being in one of the most expensive resorts in Italy the bar prices here are very very reasonable. I expect we will be back next year.

    Would not recommend

My partner and I recently returned from a weeks holiday in the Grand Hotel Forte dei Marmi . This hotel was disappointing from the start. We arrived in the evening after a long day travelling . We checked in and was allocated room 55. We went to the room looking forward to a shower and then dinner. The room was big , but dark and gloomy. A small window looking onto a WALL and a staff smoking area . We were upset to say the least . I checked my booking e mail and assured ourselves that we were given the wrong room . Our booking stated a double room with balcony and lateral sea view. Room 55 had a view of a wall and no balcony and was dark and depressing . We went back to reception and told the receptionist we had been given the wrong room and showed her our booking confirmation. She looked at it and said her records did not have this info on it. We persevered and said we wanted what we had booked and paid for . We were told the hotel was fully booked and there was nothing she could do. We were not happy and she knew. Eventually she said she had a room coming free the next day but it would be smaller. We said ok we will change the next day. Sure enough we got a knock on the door at 12 next day and we were brought to look at room 208 on the second floor . She was right it was smaller .. much smaller but had a balcony (with one chair !!) and a lateral sea view. We said we would take it as we wanted to start our holiday and relax . When we had moved our luggage in we looked around . No bedside lockers , part of the wardrobe blocked by the bed , no space on one side of the bed . The one chair on the balcony now made sense, it was a single room with a double bed in it .We accepted the room because she had no other.. as I said we wanted to get on with our holiday. We found the bedside lockers , one in the bathroom under the sink and the other beside a table in the room . The dining hall is stuffy and breakfast is boring .. dinner was nice but again not great choices. Beach is close but dont expect to sit on any of the lovely sun loungers you see unless you are prepared to pay 60+ per person per day ... the free beach , bring your own chair or towel is 2.5 km walk from the hotel . We got through the week and on our final evening I stopped at reception to check what time our collection was the next morning . The receptionist looked at me blankly , fumbled with some paperwork, did a bit of typing on the computer and said we have no information on what time you are being collected at . I asked could she please find out and she said well if you were brought here you will be collected !!! I said but what time ... she said I dont know thats not my problem !!! Eventually when she saw the look of shock on our faces she said ok I will find out for you . We left to have dinner outside the hotel and received and e mail telling us the collection time. You will need Italian power adapters as the standard European ones dont fit. We ended up getting one that used our European adapter and then our Irish one . My opinion of this hotel is that its definitely not a 4 star or even a 3 . Customer service is brutal. Good points Its close the the market and the town centre with lots of shops and restaurants, Bikes are available to hire from the hotel .

    Great location and superb service

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the hotel which is in a great location, close to excellent beaches, restaurants, bars and designer shops. Our air conditioned room was comfortable and the balcony had a decent side sea view. The hotel has a nice pool with plenty of loungers and we regularly used the bar and terrace next to the pool for pre-dinner drinks. We stayed on a half board basis and, whilst the breakfast choices were limited (the only hot food was scrambled egg and bacon, which was undercooked, or sausages), the four course evening meals were excellent. We were highly impressed with all of the staff at the hotel, from the receptionists to the bar and restaurant staff. Our waiters Anxhelo and Alise both deserve a special mention having looked after us brilliantly. The hotel is in a good position for visiting many of the must see places in Tuscany and Liguria and during our stay we went to Pisa, Lucca, the Cinque Terre, all of which are within an hours journey. We also visited Portofino and Genoa which are up to 2 hours away but well worth the journey.

Fairly good location for travelling the area during the day but not so great at night

Stayed in this hotel with the Travelsphere group during their Cinque Terre Tour last week. I think the pictures don't quite do the hotel justice. I normally stay in hotels a lot plusher than this but this was the hotel chosen for the tour. I must admit even though it is very basic when it comes to furniture and lacks ambience due to furnishings and colours I cannot fault the cleanliness and the nice staff that were working during my stay. I had a standard double on the first floor towards the front of the hotel facing towards the sea across the road, the room was large bright and airy, simply furnished but with lots of hanging space and drawers, the bathroom was a good size and spotlessly clean - the room is tiled which has good and bad points - nearly slipped twice! The room really was adequate for my stay as I was out during the day - had a safe and hairdryer in bathroom - I took my own travel jug and coffee as there was not tea/coffee making facilities in the room and I do like a cuppa coffee as soon as my eyes open There is a bar but annoyingly they didn't like people taking drinks from the bar into the dining room. The drinks are very sensibly priced Aperol Spritz at 6 euros. The bar staff were chatty, helpful - really nice - cant remember his name but the young Albanian bar/ waiter was very pleasant. I didn't particularly like the food - the salad buffet at the start was far better than the 3 course meal that followed - twice I had fish and eggs that were like rubber! - it was very bland food - and usually turned up luke warm so I wont pass such praise on the food front The young girls on the Reception desk were also so friendly and extremely helpful, always smiling and there to answer any queries - I did actually mention to the manager of the hotel how nice I found all the staff I came across during my stay There is a pool which was clean and had adequate beds/seating - there were bikes to rent which I thoroughly recommend - you can cycle to Viareggio about 45 mins each way The only downside of this area is that the local shops are all designer which if you are not into designer shops leaves you with nothing to do in the evening locally other than eat or drink as there are no nice little shops to stroll in and out of to while away the evening after a meal. The location is good though to use as a base to tour Pisa, Lucca, Lerici, Cinque Terre, Portofino, Portovenere etc It literally is a stones throw across the road to a beach but you are looking at 30 euros plus to hire beds/chairs and you are like sardines! If you are into running and cycling like I am then you will like the way you can run and cycle safely on the designated paths - if you do wave to Andrea Bocelli as you pass his house on the main road!
