3 star hotel is actually 3 star serviceStayed here in August in Deluxe room with a small window. Room was somehow clean but toilet seat looks old with few scratches, as it is about 5-650,000 VND a night and located in District 1 close to Ben Thanh market. I think it is ok, buffet breakfast is very less of variety.

AVOID AT ALL COSTSTHIS HOTEL ALSO KNOWN AS SHANGRI LA HOTEL HCMC I stayed at this dingy little hotel in September 17 I have stayed here many nights previously and it was not too bad. But would like to advise this place has gone downhill dramatically in recent times. 1. Aircon in rooms does not work well. 2.The rooms are very musty and smell like urine 3. No soap is supplied in bathrooms and supplied toilet paper is 1 ply quality. 4. Wifi is never working properly 5. As part of the rebranding process from Asian Ruby Hotel to "Shangri La" Hotel an attempt has been made to redecorate. Unfortunately it appears the redecoration was performed with scraps of wood painted black and $2 lights from the market 6. There is never enough food at breakfast time And the cooks are far too slow to replenish 7. There is a very nasty lady who works on reception Desk, who also claims to be the owner, (which I doubt) her name is Bee And after I complained about the butter being off, she told me I'm not welcome to stay now or in the future. I travel extensively and I can honestly say Bee is the rudest person I have ever come across in any hotel, anywhere in the world. SEE A COPY OF HER OFFENSIVE EMAIL BEE SENT ME AFTER I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BUTTER BEING OFF. Make up your own mind of course but I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of other cheaper and nicer hotels in the area.

Excellent room and bed for price paidWe booked a double room with 2 single beds and a double bed over looking the park. The rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable with bathroom in each room. slight higher priced when we booked but was worth the money for the sake of a few £

DissapointingWe stayed here for location and this proved to be a good decision close to a lot of places to see 40,000 dong trip by taxi to war museum there are many restaurants around for food and across the road if you go down the art gallery lane directly across from hotel there is the Siam Hair Salon recommended We were asked to pay for our stay on arrival along with the $15US that we agreed to pay on booking which on refection may have been excessive if they didn't wave the return fee to the airport so maybe make this clear if your booking that it includes the return to the airport The hotel has steep steps on entry so not suitable for chairs bad knees back etc I struggled more going down the steps there is a small elevator operating but not air conditioned the hallways are very narrow and to eat it is necessary to climb to sets of stairs to go up to the breakfast area along with a step so no chairs for this area the rooms are small and basic their is a safe the bathroom has a bath with the detachable shower head again not suitable for people with back problems etc as there is no rail to assist you, the toilet seat was old and moved and we had to ask twice for toilet paper TV there is 3 English speaking channels batteries were flat on remote. Breakfast was include as stated breakfast is on the top floor you take the elevator to the 7th floor and then you climb 2 sets of stairs they are steep and uneven we came to breakfast at different times 8-9--9.30 at all times the egg station was in direct sun with eggs oil etc all sitting in the sun for this reason we chose not to eat eggs there was at no time in our stay any more than 5 pieces of bread available to eat and none offered at 9.30 there was very minimal amounts to eat every morning there was no more than 2 cups of tea left in the pot to drink I did not observe anyone look at the food or tea pots to see there was enough the tables outside were rickety and rocking there was no direction to guest of where the cutlery and plates were kept and I observed this on several occasions our departure was at 7pm for Singapore-Melbourne-Adelaide some 18 hours flying we were asked to supply a time we wanted to leave the hotel for transport back to the airport we did this and also ask for late checkout at 5pm which we were told was confirmed and booked the night prior to leaving we wanted to confirm our arrangements and were told it could not happen as they were fully booked, but we can wait in the waiting room or leave our bags there for the 5 hours before the taxi to the airport we were very confused the next morning we again went to the lobby to straighten this out, this time we were told this was indeed possible to stay in the room till 5pm but we would need to pay $50 US to do so, we paid of course to have showers etc but later learnt that the hotel was never fully booked, so in short make sure you have late check out. I found the hotel run down and needs the look in the lobby to be carried out through the hotel as this is the only place that looks bright and cheery they need someone to supervise the running of the hotel as no-one actually seems to be in charge the staff were polite but are in need of instruction I personally wanted to leave the hotel after hours of being there and if the stay was longer than 4 days this would have happened we have stayed in many Hotels B&B Resorts and this was a disappointing stay and would not recommend
