Lovely winter weekendWe spent a lovely winter weekend at Golte. The hotel is nice with very friendly staff and the view from the balcony was perfect. The hotel is just in the ski slopes, so we started skiing right after breakfast. There is also a ski school for the kids with excellent instructors.

Poor organisation and offerThis year we had a pleasurable one-week winter holiday as well, opting for the ski resort Golte. The children attended the well-organised "White Rabbit" Ski School, while my husband and I enjoyed sunny hikes, as skiing was limited due to lack of snow (an additional piste was only opened on the 1st of January, with only one other piste apart from the one for children in operation before). However, the footpaths were poorly marked with some of the markings broken or unusable, so hikers were often left to their own devices (Google Maps) and knowledge. As New Year approached, the number of visitors to the hotel and ski resort began to rise correspondingly, also resulting in an increased demand for drinks on the outside terrace. This caused a problem, as the outdoor bar was not in operation, meaning that all service was provided from the indoor restaurant. The upshot was that each individual order took about 20 minutes to be fulfilled if one was lucky enough to get the waiter's attention. The quality of tea differed daily; on certain days it tasted stale and was obviously recycled from the day before, but the prices remained the same and quite steep to boot. Another quirk was that exactly the same order, placed with exactly the same waiter and on the very same day resulted in different prices, which is something I had not experienced in a long time - in fact I don't think it has ever happened to me in Slovenia before. The attendance in the disco (set up in the repurposed canteen) on New Year's Eve equalled zero, with the DJ playing music to himself and an older waitress. In the future, I recommend that, much like at other ski resorts, drinks should be served on the open terrace alongside freshly made schmarrn and strudel. Serving should moreover be organized and not left to the devices of the waiters, as they clearly lacked the necessary experience. Additionally, the line, delineating the edge of the beginners' piste, should be protected on its left side with hay or pillows, since children can crash into it on skis or sleds, which could have tragic consequences! Furthermore, the potential of the mountain cabin "Trije Ploti" was almost completely wasted, as it actually closed its doors on New Year's Eve at 4 p.m., while guests were still having drinks. In order to encounter proper hospitality, one must only look to the neighbouring mountain cabin "Pri lajferu", which served cheaper and better food and drinks than the Golte restaurant. The Golte restaurant mainly served fried dishes and the only thing I found praise-worthy was its salad bar, which, however, is only restocked until 1 p.m., and empties soon thereafter. I also found it inconceivable that, for example, apple strudels were served cold from the fridge, while we all know that they are best served hot, especially if meant for a child who comes in from skiing in the cold.

A nice ski trip with room for improvementWe had a nice time at the hotel Golte. PROS: - the hotel seems incorporated in the top cable car station and has direct access to the slopes - perfect - everything you need for skiing is there - service, instructors, shop, equipment storage facilities, ski-boot friendly restaurant... - the hotel is well maintained , the rooms are rather medium-sized. - the slopes are great for families (given there is enough snow!) - hotel library - superb for grabbing an evening read after dinner while the kids play in the kids' corner. CONS: - PARKING on site is very limited - you can park in front of the hotel for unloading/loading, but after that you are advised to drive outside the ramp, which leaves you with parking options on unmarked terrain on either side of the unpaved access road - facing a massive drop downhill or a slope with rather loose-looking stones. I believe a 4* hotel should do better. While you could park (ample parking available) in the valley and take a cable car uphill, this would mean several trips if you travel with a lot of luggage. - FOOD is not actually a con, but rather a +- issue. While breakfast diversity left much to be desired, the dinners were varied, but not very vegetarian friendly. If you don't eat fish, you might have a problem. Drink selection was good. All in all it was a nice trip with room for improvement.

Ordinary 3 star hotelStuff is very friendly, location is beatiful but thats it. Everything else is average or even below that. Breakfast and dinner are not worthy even 3 stars. There is nothing to do if there is bad weather. It could be much better.

Daily routine offGood Hotel, friendly staff. Food was good and we could choose from a lot morning and also evening. The wellness is quite simple but clean. Small parking area but the funicular is working well, every half hour.
