Very comfortable B&B in Border Country

We spent two nights at Goldilands while travelling through the Border Country from Edinburgh to Northumbria. We had a very nice room, quite cosy with TV, wifi, en-suite bathroom. It was also good to have access to a communal lounge with coffee, tea and masses of brochures and other information about the surrounding area. The host, Margaret, is excellent, very helpful and cooks fantastic breakfasts. I greatly enjoyed a full Scottish breakfast but actually you can choose whatever you want from small portions to the Full Monty. This spot was an excellent base for visits to the abbey towns of Melrose, Jedburgh and Kelso. Highly recommended and we would stay at Goldilands again.

Very nice, friendly and sympathetic mistress of the cozy guest house

Very nice guest house in pastoral Scotland, 5 km from the town of Kelso. Bedrooms are small but cozy, there is a large living room where you can spend time together over a bottle of scotch Margaret is a very nice, friendly and sympathetic mistress, she is always ready to help. Breakfasts, which she cooks according to your order, are beyond praise. 500 meters from the guest house, is the castle Roxburgh, now it's repurposed into a hotel with a small restaurant, the castle has a beautiful park where have a nice walk, Goldilands is a great place for travelers.

    Not impressed at all.

£160 a night, when we arrived we found the place wasn't clean. There were half a dozen dead Bluebottles under the coffee table, the bins were filthy and the cutlery and glasses were very dirty. Very warm day so the chicken poo all along the front of the cottage was swarming with Bluebottles. Was visiting for my brothers wedding, he was very busy and ended up staying the night so we were charges another £24 even though we had booked the full cottage for two nights and there was a single bed not being used. Spoke honestly and politely to Margaret on leaving saying we had had a nice enough stay but that there were some issues and we didn't think it was worth £160 a night. Left an honest review on air bnb saying there were some issues but that Margaret had been a nice host. Wish I hadn't bothered. On reading my review she obviously took the huff and accused me of "scratching a worktop"?!?!? The place honestly wasn't clean at all and is dated and generally unkept. My friend has three flats in Merchant City that we use from time to time that are always absolutely spotless. Different if we had paid £80 a night but not what I would expect from somewhere at £160 a night. Very disappointed with Margaret's response to an honest review. (Had left a 3 out of 5 review on air bnb - this review is worse due to being accused of scratching a worktop when I never used the worktop!!!)

    Lovely bungalow,highly recommended

We stayed for 2 nights,3 adults and one nearly 5 year old. Spacious, well maintained, clean, well equipped 3 double bedroom bungalow in quiet rural location.all bedrooms are on suite with loo, sink and shower each.all essentials provided plus a lovely welcome pack including eggs from own hens.parking outside front of property. Our host Margaret welcomed us and couldn't have been more helpful. Our 5 year old loved the Tiara which she received from Margaret. Thanks for a lovely stay,Margaret ! We can wholeheartedly recommend the bungalow.

Christmas booking cancelled due to Covid 19 travel ban and left with no refund or alternative dates

My reservation was made in September for a small family gathering at Christmas. On December 20th the government announced a travel ban which ment the the booking could not got ahead. I requested a refund in writing which the host refused but offered me a chance to book alternative dates. As the country was still in lockdown it took me a over a week to get back her with the dates. At this point she told me that the offer of rebooking had expired as I only had four days to do it. This had never been mentioned before. I can't quite believe she has kept all my money when the cancellation was completely out of control.
