  Seaside getaway

  We stayed half board. The food was delicious and good value. The staff were warm and friendly. The room was comfortable but there are a few things that needed attention in the rooms. The first room we were in the curtain rail fell down but the hotel staff moved us to another room very quickly which was great service, and it was a slightly bigger room, although we noted that this room also had some minor repair work that needed attention, but this was cosmetic and didn't impact our stay. It would have been nice to have a few more touches in the room, ie a box of tissues, a hairdryer etc. The building is from the 1800's and certainly had character and I like the fact that original features were still there, like the windows. Overall a pleasant stay

  Birthday Getaway

  2 night getaway for my Wife's birthday. Staff excellent, rooms a little tired but clearly they are spending money on refurbing the place & in the current climate they should be applauded for that. The restaurant & bar area are lovely & the food was very good. In the 15 years we've been going to Hunny we'd never stepped foot in the place previously but we'll certainly be returning. Well done Team Golden Lion, top job!

  Love this hotel

  We stayed for 2 days breakfast and 2 course evening meal, all in. I think its the best hotel i have ever stated in! It was warm and cozy and welcoming, and the staff were AMAZING!! So very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The breakfast was full english,toast, cereal, orange juice tea or coffee. The evening meal was fantastic and very nicely presented. The beds were very comfy and we soon snuggled down after our lovely long walks along the sea front for an afternoon kip. We were mesmerized by the view of the sea through our room window and could watch it all day. I will go back another time when this Covid business is sorted. A most welcome relaxing couple of days loved it! Only slight grumble was private car park charge of £6+? Per night which i thought a bit steep!

  Covid Christmas Classic

  Stayed here on Christmas day... under covid restrictions. We also had Christmas Dinner. Service, staff and food were excellent. Dinner for one, traditional Xmas fare, dinner for me vegan option.. superbly done. Also there were Christmas gifts for all diners and they had made the effort to gift a vegan friendly option of sweets... most considerate. We were allowed to take our dessert into the bar meaning we could relax and enjoy our after dinner drinks whilst we had vegan chocolate torte and regular cheese n biscuits for my friend. All in all we couldn't really fault this experience. The staff definitely made this a very enjoyable experience. Big thanks to Giles 4 out of 5 as there were a few missing items on the main dinner plate, but nothing that spoiled the day

  Glad to be back!

  In the brief respite between lockdowns we managed to fit in a 4 night break, the first visit since the change of ownership. We were delighted to return to this lovely old hotel and to see familiar faces among the staff. Friendly, efficient staff, clean, comfortable rooms, substantial breakfasts, excellent evening meals and a pleasant bar make a perfect relaxing holiday. Thank you to Giles and the team for all your hard work getting the Golden Lion back on its feet. We will be back as soon as we can!
