    Shabby Hotel

Booked the Golden Horse based on the photos online - what a mistake! The hotel is really adequate considering the price, but nothing like the pictures we saw. The rooms have not been updated since the 70s - prepare for old orange/brown linoleum - and unfortunately, the bed linens may not have been changed since then either. On the up side, the staff was very friendly and accomodating when we decided to cut short our stay. If you really have to save money, it might work for you, but I'd opt for a guesthouse instead. At least then you'd have some charm!

    Excellent, quiet hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights and found service, food and room excellent for price. Staff were not very good at English but very helpful. Taxi drivers had difficulties finding it, but it is well located near the Golden Mountain Pagoda and about 10 - 15 minutes from main tourist areas such as China Town and river. You won't get bothered by unwanted people or excessive noise here. Found it via: asia-bangkok.com

We got robbed while we slept...

I know it was a good while ago we stayed at this hotel but im only new to this site... My husband and I were on a year workin travellin holiday in Australia... Our year was up and we were on our route home. As alot of people we meet in the year had been to Thailand and recommended it we said we would make it our last stop... I found this hotel on the net and booked it because of pictures and reviews, the bigest mistake of our trip... We arrived in bangkok late at night and got a taxi to the golden horse, when we arrived at reception they charged us a late check in fee which i knew nothin about... We went up to our room and there was single beds in the room when i had booked a kig bed room. There was also the strongest smell of mold i have ever smelt... I went back to reception and asked to be changed to a cleaner room with a king bed, they changed our room to a king bed room but the smell was no better than the first room... It was about 3am at this stage and we were wrecked after a long flight from Sydney so we decided to get sleep and were goin to find somewhere else in the morning... My husband woke about half 7 to go to toilet and he noticed the hall door was slighty open we didn't pay much notice and closed and locked it again and we went back to sleep... I woke at around half 8 and decided to get up as i wanted to go on the internet and find another hotel... It was then i realised i couldn't find our bag with our cash, cards, passports, camecorder or camera... My husband jumped up and said we were robbed remember the door was open earlier... We both went down to the reception and told them what was after happening... The staff at the reception LAUGHED AT US AND SAID THEY DIDN'T SPEEK ENGLISH... We went back up to our room as they told us they would get us the manager and she would meet us in our room... It wasn't untill we went back to the room that we realised our labtop and one of our backpacks were also missing... The manager didn't come to us for 4 hours and when she did she said there was nothing she could do as there was no camera on our floor... We told her that was not good enough and we wanted the police called... She didn't want to involve the police she said we could stay der that night free and der was a western union up the road that we could get someone to send us money... I said not a hope i want the police now either she got them or I would... So she got the police... There wasn't alot they could do as there was no video on our floor so they couldn't do anything really... They got all the night staff in except for the lady who was on reception she couldn't be contacted but the mananger said she worked there years and she wouldn't have done something like that... (How dose she know someone did) In the end there was nothin that could be done we spent the next 2 day tryin to get emergancy passports to get us home. The hotel helped us in no way at all we had to find everything ourselves and we left once we got them...

    Alone on hotel!

As backpacker beginners we booked this hotel in Bangkok because of the pictures in their website. It was not quite like that. We had beforehand ordered breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. The worst American breakfast ever tasted. Sadly the staff do not speak very good English. We had a hard time communicating. All in all this hotel is not worth the money and the hotel stay will be seriously affected by you being (almost) alone on the Golden Horse Hotel.

    viejo y caro
