Nothing to rave aboutHuge hotel with many rooms. It is located away from the busy streets so we liked the location as it was quiet. The prices of rooms were also affordable. Unfortunately, we had problems communicating with the staff as only 1 could speak english. The bed was hard and not really comfy. Although the room does provide all the basic amenities for guests. Cleanliness of the toilet can be worked on.

Fancy hotel with some shortcomingsThe hotel is an "upper class" hotel which has some short comings which need correcting. The furnishings and renovations of the hotel is very good. The hallways are really beautiful and rooms more than adequate. Amenities are also generally good. Some shortcomings: Every other hotel I have stayed in in Asia and China have had 2 free bottles of drinking water. The Golden Coast Lawton has a large bottle of water clearly marked 35 RMB. But they also have 2 small (350cc) bottles of water which I assumed were the free bottles. It was only on the 3rd day I discovered I was being charged 8 RMB/bottle (US $1.30). There is no reason a hotel of this class would charge these exhorbitant prices for 2 small bottles of drinking water which are free at most hotels. They do have a hot pot in the room, but no water waiting to be used. Also no coffee, only leaf tea. The rooms below the 8th floor on the South WIng are VERY NOISY due to the nightclub and KTV on the 3rd and 4th floor. We went to get a sandwich at the western restaurant when we arrived only to be told the Western Restaurant is only open on the weekends. Breakfast had a fairly large selection but all Chinese foods (except for a fired egg). Would recocomned addition of dry cereal for kids, etc. Beds are somewhat hard, but it wasn't a problem. English ability in the hotel is fairly poor for a hotel of this class. Bathtub had some rust showing through in some spots which need repair, but otherwise was clean. This hotel should rate a 4 star but with these deficiencies I need to rate average. We were not in a nonsmoking room, but it didn't smell of smoke. THe hotel is NOT close to the beach area

Not bad for a Chinese hotelThis hotel is large and impressive as you drive up. As you enter an approach the check-in area, there are "5 Stars" over the reception desk, but that must be a decoration ... this is not a "5 Star" hotel. But, it is comfortable and we had a nice few days there. Our non-smoking room was very clean and fresh. We couldn't get the A/C to get the room cool enough for our desire, but it was ok. My main advice is to make sure you get a room high up, away from the KTV disco. I heard many guests complaining that they could not sleep for the late night (early morning) music and people yelling outside. We only ate breakfast there and it was "so-so". The taxis are metered in Haikou and it's about a 50-60 yuan trip to the airport.

Good hotel at reasonable priceGood location on Renmin Avenue (Renmin Da Dao). Very close to Hainan University and within walkable distance from Baishamen Park and Public Beach. There is a bus stop just in front of the hotel Good and large room with comfortable bed. Bathroom with shower and toiletries. The room was serviced twice a day was kept very clean Breakfast of average quality with Chinese and some western food Staff friendly. There were at least 2 women at lobby counter who spoke good English Reasonable price and good value for money

Quite OKAn old style model interior hotel but quite clean and the single bed also quite big, just stay 1 night and no time to explore, food just fine even though some of the food was empty awhile before they refilled it
