    Beefeaters beware

We have been to this hotel for functions and meals on many occasions over the last 20 years, we went for Sunday lunch in December 2019 using a Groupon, we had a very nice meal, we were told that the hotel was under new management. We bought another groupon and went on Sunday 19th January, it was a cold foggy day, so we had soup as a starter, I chose beef for the main, my wife had chicken. There was a £2 supplement for the beef, I had 2 slices of beef which my impression they were warmed up slices of cooked cold meat you buy in a supermarket, identical in size, about 2 mm thick, no juices and you could cut with a spoon, definitely not carved from a cooked beef joint, with also having a pudding, it turned into a very expensive and Sunday Lunch, I don't think we will be going there again.

    Ruby Wedding Anniversary Party

Last summer we visited the Glebe Hotel in Barford and decided that we would hold our Ruby Wedding Anniversary in this comfortable, relaxed and friendly hotel. We were not disappointed ..... friends travelled from all over the UK to join us ......from the south coast to Scotland and everyone said how easy it was to find. Before the event Jayne was really helpful .....there were 64 of us for lunch from across three generations ( unfortunately it was too wet and cold to open the door into the adjoining garden ...... reminded us of our wedding day when it was wet and cold 40 years ago !!). On the day Sim and him team were patient, polite and appropriately attentive. Those with special dietary requirements were well looked after. The food was delicious and well served. About a dozen of us stayed overnight ...... we all enjoyed a bar snack in the evening and a leisurely breakfast the next morning; some of us took to the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. I know we will be back at some point for a weekend break in the meantime many thanks to all the staff for making our celebration so memorable.

    Disappointment

We booked a double room and settled in, me to sleep after a drive, whilst my wife wanted to have a bath. No hot water. We then had to pack everything and move to the other side of the hotel, my grandson as well from a single room next to us. When I asked if this inconvenience would be recognised ion the bill I was told no you are now in a better room. It was bigger room, space we did not need for one nights stay and the shower was far inferior to the one in the other room. The menu for the restaurant was limited and very fussy. We ate out at a lovely pub nearby. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The following morning we went down for breakfast, greeted by the waiter and shown to our table. I was given a cup of tea. The cooked food came and was fine but we then had our toast amongst the debris of the cooked course, despite the waiter bringing other people into the restaurant. There was no offer of anymore tea so I took my cup to where the tea pot was placed but only to find the contents hardly warm. Very disappointed and thankful that it was only one nights stay.

Another lovely trip to The Glebe

We have just returned from our 11th trip to The Glebe. It's perfectly placed for Stratford and all the other lovely towns and National Trust properties in the area. We combined it with a visit to the theatre in Stratford. It's always easy to park. The rooms are clean and the staff are unfailing pleasant. We had a delicious meal in the evening. The prices are reasonable. We've already booked our next trip!!

    A Birthday letdown !

My partner booked a stay at the Glebe for my birthday. To add to the surprise he upgraded the room and booked treatments with the onsite Beauticians. On arrival my first impressions were this is a tired 80's wedding venue. We waited at reception for some time, a maintenance man eventually went and got us some help. Our room was ok but quite small. The bathroom then made it clear by the 'special access bath' that we had been booked into a disabled room, really romantic ! Looking around the room there was a real lack of expected things, no hooks for wet coats, no hooks in the bathroom or place for wet swimming costumes. No toiletries apart from a cheap squeezy bottle fixed to the wall, the kind you would find in a corporate budget hotel. The finish in the bathroom was terrible, it seemed if in doubt fill it with mastic! Sharp edges made some areas quite dangerous. If this was an upgraded room, I would be shocked to see a 'normal room' We cancelled our dinner reservation as the hotel appeared to be empty with skeleton staff. The next morning was my birthday and we wanted to make the most of things. Pool was nice but Sauna & Turkish bath had not been turned on. Breakfast was served in the conservatory which you accessed through a room that looked like a store room. The continental breakfast was the cheapest and worst I had ever seen. Tea was served in flask that you would normally see at a corporate function. The china and cutlery, like the rest of the 'dinning room' needed a good clean. We could stand it no more and decided to book out. The manager met us to hear our views and the result was that we were made to feel that our expectations were too high. At no point did she make any attempt to apologies for the faults we raised only an offer of another room. We might go to 5* hotels but we also go camping, and for us its about getting what you've paid for and wherever you stay the facilities available should be working and service provided be at the expected level. I have never booked out of a hotel early, and we were both very disappointment especially as my partner had spent so much time and effort into arranging this for my birthday. In the case of The Glebe Hotel you definitely do not get what it says on the tin! and my first impressions were right, a tired 80's wedding venue !
