Great small hotel, excellent staff, well locatedQuite rare to be fully happy with a hotel on holidays but I am with Ginza because of the following reasons: 1. Possibly the best staff I have experienced in all the hotels I have stayed at. It's a small hotel but the service is better than a 5 star. They are genuinely thoughtful, kind, efficient and very helpful. They pass on messages to each other so no need to repeat the same question to different staff. It's amazing! They know English, Japanese, French and Mandarin between them. Just hope they get given a dishwasher as the girls have to wash all the breakfast dishes, glasses, cutleries themselves while maintaining the front desk. 2. The hotel is well located in Zhongshan and not far from Ambassador Hotel where the airport bus drops you off. Lots of cool shops, cafes and also cheap local restaurants in this area. 3. The hotel is in a scruffy old building but the room is very nice. It's fully renovated, clean and nicely serviced everyday. It's not small but actually large in comparison for Japan and HK in terms of room sizes. Downside would be there's a couple of karaoke or bars in the same building so if you are very very sensitive to noise then it's not for you. But we only heard this on Fri and Sat nights. The breakfast is basic and geared more towards the Asian palate. It would be better with the addition with cereals, fruit and yohurt. But you can have more than one cup of coffee so it's okay for me. Thanks Ginza staff and Taipei. Great city and people. Been terrific!

Where is the quality or value?Your introduction to this hotel is by what seems to be virtually a service dock - a dirty industrial concrete landing shared by all the other commercial occupants of this large building. The lobby/ dining area is on level 4 reached by a lift also with industrial fit out. Once you are out of this dismal lobby area things start to improve as the rooms are not too bad - of reasonable size, well not too small, with wallpaper and faded worn carpet, large poor quality TV and an outlook over the airwell between buildings, also industrial with more airconditioning units than you can count. The bathroom was clean but with very limited supplies of abominable quality. My wife's hair had knots and lumps at the ends where the conditioner would not wash out. Sleep quality was ok with the room quiet but the mattress a bit hard which suited me. Then down to breakfast which was poor, mean and by far the worst we had in our 4 hotels in Taipei (included Beauty B6, HD Palace & K Hotels - all reviewed by me). The food was basically no choice of bad Japanese? including soggy greens, chicken bits, sausage bits and spam slices. However by request could get bacon and eggs which was ok with toast and what passed for jam but fortunately some ok peanut butter. Fruit consisted of 4 tiny pieces served on a saucer - no buffet here except for the Japanese food which was nearly inedible. I suppose you could ask for more but why when the quality is so low. Now, many reviewers seem to compliment this hotel on the staff and location which is fair enough as the location is excellent but really I think you can assume that hotel staff are going to be helpful/friendly so why mention it except if they are not (and they were at every hotel we stayed in Taipei) or else who would stay except on price but this hotel is not cheap except in attitude and in what they provide. Because of the location we stayed 2 nights and asked for late checkout (2 hours) on our departure date and were told that was ok provided we paid 400 Taiwan dollars (about $14US per hour). We left to go to K Hotel (5-10 minutes walk away but another dimension in quality) which was of comparable price but so so much better and with helpful/friendly staff (there are those words again!) who provided complimentary early check in and late checkout with smiles. Why stay at the Ginza which has so little on offer?

Great hotelOur stay at Ginza Hotel was amazing. The hotel is right at the center and it is both easy to walk everywhere and take the MRT. Although the building isn't new, everything inside is in very good condition. And staff were very helpful and friendly, thank you for everything :)

I have seen better hotels in TaipeiI have been to Taipei more than 10 times and each time I stay at different hotels, including their sister hotel, Tokyo International. In comparison to Tokyo International, the staff were as friendly and also very helpful, but the room was a lot smaller and the bathroom was easier to use at Tokyo International. Also, the quality of breakfast was a lot better at Tokyo International. The room rate was more expensive at the Ginza Hotel. I have stayed at better hotels in Taipei at similar room rate and the room was better there. I loved the hospitality and smiles of the people, however, if I pay the same amount of money, I would go for better rooms. The best I liked about this hotel was there was a smoking area near the reception. There may not be the second time for me, unfortunately.

not worth itThe room was teeny tiny, especially compared to the other serviced residence we stayed at before. I believe it was called CK service residence, which was super roomy. My friend came to pick us up, and told us that we were staying in a working girl area, which helped clear up why there were strange men entering and exiting the building at all hours. IT IS IS FAMILY FRIENDLY so do not stay here with kids. Ginza hotel is located only on the 4th floor of the building, and I am not sure what the other floors are for. The breakfast was not that good, and they would bring out small pieces of fruit instead of adding it to the buffet. The only good thing about this hotel was the staff. They were super friendly and helpful. For the price though, not worth it. I will not stay again.
