Brilliant stay at The Lake HouseMy husband and I stayed at the Lake House for his birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. We booked the Jetty Spa Trail and HRiSHi tasting menu. The food was fantastic and I would recommend the wine pairing too. The staff were all very friendly and professional. They made us feel so welcome. We wanted to extend our stay we enjoyed ourselves that much but unfortunately (for us!) they were fully booked. We hope to return in the future!

A slice of heaven! One word to describe the Gilpin; spectacular!! What a hotel! It is in the most beautiful and serene of settings, where you feel shut off from the hectic outside world! The service is truly magnificent! Every team member is just the right level of friendly, and ever so helpful, to the point that you feel you have known them for some time! The beauty of being in a small hotel is that all team members know who you are, and given we were there for my hubbys birthday, everywhere we went, we got a Happy Birthday Mr Hopwood! Just lovely! We stayed in one of the new SpaSuite 100 rooms, and oh my goodness, what an amazing experience! From the outdoor hot tub (which is large enough for at least eight people!) to your own private steam room and sauna, and then theres the electric massage chair, which is out of this world! The decor is modern, with beautiful detail (see photo of the birdcage above the bath!). There is a lovely welcoming fire in the living room, and we were treated to our very own Christmas tree, making it feel very festive. The rooms are floor to ceiling windows throughout, allowing a flood of light in, and due to their position, the rooms are very private! For our first night we ate at Hrishni, where the food was amazing. At first my husband questioned the size of the portions, however he soon found out that they were plenty adequate and we left pleasantly filled! The dishes were well presented and delicious! After dinner we were chauffeured back to our suite (due to the torrential rain) by a very nice gentleman. The next day, Breakfast in our room was perfect. Perfectly cooked poached eggs, with the most orange of yolks, and they even took the fat off the bacon!! If there is one thing I would strongly recommend it is the Indian Head Massage! Due to us being in a SpaSuite, the therapists came to our room for our treatment. Hands down the best massage I have ever had! On the second night we ate at Gilpin Spice, and were lucky enough to sit up at the chefs table.... what an absolute delight! The spice team were amazing, and the food was out of this world! We will be sad to leave this little piece of heaven, and cannot wait to return in 2021!!

Simply PerfectWhat an amazing place! The Gilpin was the perfect honeymoon, especially in such a turbulent year. We couldn't have asked for better service, hospitality, and relaxation. The new Spa Suite was phenomenal - we honestly felt like we could have stayed there forever. The food at HRiSHi was unlike anything we've ever tasted, breakfast and lunch were plentiful and scrumptious, and although the HRiSHi tasting menu was an absolute highlight, it was actually Spice that gave us the most more-ish dish - the prawn skewers! As amazing as the room and food were though, it was the people that were the real stand out. The fact that everyone seemed to know it was our honeymoon and wished us congratulations made us feel extra special. Everyone was brilliant, but we tried to keep track of as many names as possible just to let you know who was especially amazing. So an extra-special thank you to Siobhan, Ken, Josh, Sharon, Dan, Lenny, Sylvio, Franco, Sarah, Anita, Vasillia. Stefan, Ben, Kerry and Cheryl (sorry if we spelled anyones names wrong!). We can't fault a single one of them for their service, attention and friendly interactions - they were a delight to talk to and I hope they felt we were as friendly to them as they were to us! So thank you, mulumesc, dzikuj ci and köszönöm! All-in-all then, one of, if not the, best getaway experiences we've ever had. We can't wait to be back. Sensational Spa Suite!Wow, wow, wow! We stayed in a Spa Suite just before Christmas and what an absolute treat it was - we could very happily move into one! What an innovative, visionary, creative & talented team they are at Gilpin. The Spa Suites design, both inside and out, is just fabulous and they are a truly incredible addition to Gilpin Hotel. Firstly, they are huge - the space you have is amazing. The bed offers fantastic sleep quality and the bedroom is situated over the pond. There is a dining area with a table and 2 chairs along with a fridge and a very well stocked wine fridge, so it you fancy a drink of wine, sparkling wine or champagne at any time it's readily available. The lounge area is very comfortable and cosy with a corner window and a hanging fire. The tv is huge and we indulged in a couple of Xmas films during our stay. You have a large, super circular bath , a double walk-in shower and an amazing vanity area. Then you have the spa room which houses an infared lamp above a bed (I had a very painful knee issue before I went, however, just 15 mins per day under the lamp saw the back of it - very impressed) a massage chair plus a steam room and sauna - everything you need to completely relax & recharge the batteries. Outside you have a curved stone wall to one side that includes a living wall, a large decked area with seating and a massive stone hot tub overlooking the pond and the hills beyond. A memory that I will hold onto for a very long time is drinking champagne in there with my hubby watching the moon rise and seeing several planets and goodness knows how many stars - it was magical. The dark Cumbrian skies means it's a fab place for stargazing on clear nights. We enjoyed breakfast to the suite each day, also lunch and even one evening meal because, quite honestly, you didn't want to leave it. The Sonos sound system meant we could play our own music through the speakers inside and outside of the suite, which was great. We also enjoyed the Spa Suite Spa Trail, which was utterly fantastic. You had a guide as to how best to enjoy all the spa products, cocktails and food that form part of the trail over a 3 day period. It was pamper heaven and a really superb enhancement to our stay. It's so well thought out - we'd definitely book this on our next stay in a Spa Suite. As always, the staff are a huge part of the Gilpin experience. We were looked after incredibly well by the wonderful Sarah Redmayne, Danny and Connor - it's always beyond lovely to see you guys & catch up. I must mention Andrew on the bar too - my hubby says you mix a mean Negroni! :) The cuisine in both Hrishi and Gilpin Spice is an absolute delight - a real highlight of any stay here for us. We spent 4 nights in Crake and would have loved it to have been even longer (forever would have been good for us) as we enjoyed it so very much. It was such a relaxing, pampered, romantic and restful stay. I will dine out on our memories of this holiday for quite some time to come.
