    Lizzie Borden ate here

I am an amatuer genealogist, and both of my parents' ancestors lived in Rehobeth, MA. circa 1700, so I wanted to see the area for myself. This B and B was one of the very few in the area, and the price was more than reasonable. We had a room on the ground floor, which was good for me with my arthritis. There was a king size bed, very comfortable, and a private bath/shower with great water pressure. The hosts do live on the premises, and have breakfast with you, which was very enjoyable, as they are both good conversationalists. They do everything they can to accommodate guests. The B and B is within a couple of miles of many historic local sites, to include many cemeteries, the historic village, and the Carpenter museum, which has a genealogy room. It is also within 10 or 15 minutes of several decent restaurants. Jean and I had many interesting conversations about the 1830 farmhouse she calls home. She gave me permission to share that a very elderly neighbor, Mrs Jones, informed her that Lizzie Borden, the famous (probable) ax-murderess visited the farm to buy homemade ice cream, which farmers used to sell. Overall, a nice visit, and I would return if in the area.

    Lovely Old Fashioned B&B experience

In ye olde days before AirBnb and Priceline's hotel bidding service, there was a bed and breakfast network where you could eschew a traditional hotel in favor of staying in a local home. The home were usually historic. The hosts lived on site, got up to make you breakfast and you actually chatted with the other visitors around the table rather than on your iPAD. Gilbert's offers this lost experience. Jeanne and Don greeted us when we arrived at 7:30pm. They showed us our room, asked if we wanted anything and said they would be watching TV for another hour or so. We were welcomed to join them or do our own thing. We took showers and our heads hit the pillow by 9pm. Prior to leaving us, Jeanne worked out a breakfast time and menu with us for the next morning. Even though it was a civil war era house, the downstairs shower was awesome - hot with strong water pressure. The bed was very comfortable. Having both a fan and A/C made the room pleasant after a freakishly hot day. The private room we had was actually two rooms with a large bedroom and a smaller (but still good size) sitting room plus private bath. Even with being way out in the country, the place had superfast Wifi. At breakfast, we enjoyed talking with a couple from Yonkers, NY. He was a school principal and shared interesting insight into the challenges of today's middle schoolers. Jeanne said she started the day with a prayer which we could join in or not depending upon our personal beliefs. I enjoyed Jeanne's french toast. Jeanne heated up my hubby's leftovers from the night before. Both Jeanne and Don sat down and ate breakfast with us. The conversation kept going. Jeanne made another pot of coffee. It felt like old friends by the time we left an hour later. If you don't like people and prefer to keep to yourself then maybe you should stick to chain hotels rather than Gilbert's.

    Charming relaxing Inn

I had a wonderful visit to Gilberts B&B, a charming, private, bed and breakfast run by Jeanne and Don. They are just the kindest, warmest, most welcoming couple, who make you feel right at home. My room was quaint, comfortable, and private, and I couldn't ask for more. Breakfast was delicious, cooked to my specifications, and our conversation delightful. I cannot more highly recommend Gilberts. Just loved our stay!

    Serene and Clean

I've been staying at Gilbert's Bed and Breakfats for 8 years. I love everything about the place--it is quaint, quiet, clean, and has easy access to the freeway. Jeanne and Don always greet me as if I am a family member and will say "we put your favorite pillow on your bed." Jeanne and Don make you feel like you are more than just a guest!

    personal visit to Massachusetts

My wife and I would like to thank Jeanne and Don for a truly wonderful weekend. This was our first time in a B&B, and it could not have been more positive. Don and Jeanne were wonderful hosts, the accomodations were clean, and comfortable; there home is a lovely old farmhouse, very tastefully decorated. Breakfast was always delicious, and satisfying. Conversation at the table was interesting as all guests are treated respectfully. As we travel to this area at least once a year we will certainly return at a later date.
